I found some iron sights for my Belgian made BAR and had a question on the front sight dovetail:

Does it matter which side of the dovetail I install the sight blade from?
In other words, do I need to install from left, right or can it go in from either side?

Thanks in advance.

Well, standard American practice is that they go in and out of the right hand side. The right hand side as determined by when you look down the rifle as if you were going to shoot it. That applies to sight dovetails, tapered pins, and regular pins, ordinarily.

Exceptions are known, expecially for some guns of foreign manufacture.

The standard American dovetail is 0.375" wide, but the metric is just a tad smaller, so measure it before you pound and/or file or order a new one. Exceptions are known here, too.
