Looking for a good source of magazines for my new HP III SPS. Which mags are the most realiable. Where to get them inexpensively.

I favor Mec Gar mags mainly the 15 rounders. Mec-Gar is the manufacturer for Browning and other gun makers.

Guns4ever.com has them. Midwayusa.com advertises them, but seems to be out of stock more often than in stock. About $25 each.

My second choice is to find used Browning 13 rounders at gun shows for reasonable prices.

Stay away from off brands they don't work well at all.

Like 10X said, Mec-Gar is the way to go. I just bought 3 of their flush-fitting 15-round magazines from CDNN and posted a little review of them on my blog here.

CDNN also carries the standard 13-round magazines and the 15/17-round South African jobs.

Thanks. MecGar it is.

I can get them for $19 for 15 rounders, and $17 for 13 rounders. That's a no brainer.
Do the Mec-Gars come with the spring loaded bottom?
No, only the mags sold as "Browning factory" mags come with the Mousetrap spring. Browning patented that idea.

The "mousetrap spring" mags are generally more expensive then the Mec Gar mags, and harder to find.

13 rounders in CA?

My understanding is that it is legal to own pre-ban hi-cap mags in CA, such as 13 rounders. But does anybody know where you can get them?

No. It is only legal to own pre-ban mags that hold more then 10 rounds in California if you *already* owned them and had them in the state before the ban started. If you don't already own them now, you can't buy them. You can't even buy them from someone else in California who had them before the ban. You had to already have owned them yourself before then. Sorry.

Thanks, Trebor. I just came back from the Glendale gun show and have already been disabused of that notion by a couple of magazine dealers there. Silly law...
