Need some advice on what choke/ammo combination to use for ducks this season. Id rather stick to the factory chokes that came with the gun if possible.
Thanks!

close over decoys - improved cylinder to a modified

most folks I know always use from 4's to 2's on shotshells

The only way to answer your question is to pattern your gun/choke combo with the loads you intend to use, at ranges you expect to be shooting. Every gun will shoot a given load differently. Steel generally patterns tighter than lead, and I shoot an IC choke out to 40 or so yards.

The general rule is that you step up one choke with steel shot so a I/C = Mod and a mod = full. I regularly use #4 Steel with a I/C choke over decoys with the second barrel being a mod in my Winchester Select O/U and it works out great. With the Beretta 390 I just use I/C.

with chokes and shot size there is quite a language barrier between english and american. I would go with 1/4 choke and steel 4 shot 32 gr cartridges. i shoot lots and lots of ducks with this recipe

Great feedback guys i appreciate it. I patterned the heck outta my gun about 6 months ago and it seemed the IC was getting the best patterns with the #3 and #4 Winchester HV loads i was using at 30 yards distance. I have only hunted ducks 1 season and never with my Maxus. I just wanted to double check with guys who actually have knocked down ducks with the Maxus.

On a side note, I have had tons of success whacking quail and doves with the Maxus. My Citori has been collecting dust which i never thought would happen.
