I'm looking to purchase a 9mm as a ccw. I have read and read (repeat several times) blogs, forums and reviews. Got down to models from Glock, Sig, Browning and FN.

Browning and FN consistently get good press. If I had to choose right now with what I know, it would either be the Browning PRO-9 or FN FNP 9.

I've read things like "the only difference is $200". I think there might be a little more to it than that!
Can someone give me an objective description of the differences with the pros/cons?

(I have experience with revolvers (.357) and shotguns (12 ga), but not semi's)
Thanks for your help

they are the same gun. FN owns Browning.
A year or two ago, one came with a manual safety while the other got a decocker, but I believe that has since changed and you can get the FNP in pretty much any configuration.

The Browning also has a mag "safety" and comes with two mags instead of three, yet costs more. Go figure.

The Browning name is more well known in the U.S. FN seems to market the FN branded guns to police and military and the Browning marked guns to civilians. When FN was importing both Browning and FN marked High Powers, the Browning marked guns outsold the FN marked guns. The FN marked guns eventually were liquidated by CDNN.

Personally, I'd get the FN marked FN9. It's the same gun, but cheaper, and with an extra mag. What is there to think about?

The newer FNPs has a different fire control than the Pro's. I like it much more, as it decocks very smoothly.:D Get the FNP.

The FNP has some sort of two piece sear/hammer block. The Pro has one piece. When you decock, you can really tell the difference.

i have fnp9 and it s great and i think the only different is that browning can be carried cock and locked and the FN only has a decocker.
