Saw a Browning SA-22 (breakdown model?) at a gunshow today. Made in Japan. Near mint condition, best price was $450 otd.

I didn't buy it but I was sorely tempted, but I don't know anything about these rifles.

Does anyone have one or know anything about them, good, bad, or indifferent? Beautifle little light .22.

Thanks,

gbw

I have one made in 1984
Bought if for a song as it was beat up and has one glaring fault,
the barrel demonstrates excessive runout from the centerline and needs to be replaced.
It is on the to do project list & not sure if Browning will replace the barrel under warranty or if I will have to buy one.
Either way it needs be done.
Over-all the rifles are generally superb and recommended.

I own an older Belgian one. It is a beautifully finished, handy little gun. The trigger is a bit heavy compared to the weight of the gun, so it can be tricky to shoot little tiny groups, but it is very fun to shoot.
The Japanese built models usually sell for quite a bit less than the Belgian ones, but are every bit as well built IMO.

They don't get any better in .22 autos!

Mine has been flawless for 35 years.

$450 OTD was a very good price!

I'll be honest, I wanted the Browning but ended up with a Norinco clone for $175. It's honestly my favorite rimfire rifle. Easy to pack and take with you. Very accurate for what it is. If I had to take one rifle with me into the wilderness, it would be that one. I can only assume the Browning is all the much better, between the fit, finish, and accuracy. Such a great rifle.

I own 3 of the Miroku Brownings and 1 Norinco clone. The Mirokus don't lose anything to the Belgian ones. Mine are at least as nice and in fact have much nicer wood and finish. All 4 are perfect in fit and function and that Norinco, while not as nicely finished is as good a shooter as any I've fired. They are great guns.
My father had one when he was a kid in the late 20s andhe loved it but it was stolen when he was in the Army in WW2. Get one and at that price its a great deal.
