Before I make another impulse buy, I found a BSA Huntsman 3-12x50 rifle scope for $59.99 no tax, free shippping. I was thinking about getting this to put on some type of rimfire rifle. I heard both good and bad reviews of the BSA Sweet 17 scopes, but I don't have a general clue about the BSA brand at all. Anyone own any BSA scopes that can shed some light?

I have had two BSA scopes. Both made me sad. I would have been better off saving that money and putting towards a better used scope.

YOu don't say what you will use it for, so I'll assume hunting. Lower price optics tend to be at their worst in low light or long range situations, just what you need in hunting. By long range I'm talking 100-300 yards. It's 2-3 times the price, but still for 100-200 you can get lower end Nikon's, Burris FFII, Bushnell Elite 3200, and the new Pentax range seems very well priced for a mid-range scope at around $100-150. All of these will have better coatings and lens polishing, that's where the cost is, and be much more usable over a wide range of uses.

I don't own any expensive scopes, I have all of the above except the new Pentax, and for my eyes it's not worth paying 500-1200 for a high end scope. The improvement is not significant enough for me.

I put a brand new BSA Classic on my Ruger 10/22. 2 days and 50rds later, the reticle fell off center, and rattled around inside the tube. My advice? Stay Away! I have recently been quite taken with Nikon's Prostaff series. It is affordable, and very clear/sturdy.
