Buddy bought a Vortex Crossfire. Broken?

My buddy brought his new Vortex Crossfire out today. He's running it on a CZ 527. After 150 to 200 yards it's useless. We could not make out my target in the least at 300 yards.

Is it broken or is that the full power of the Crossfire II?

What was the target, and what is the magnification range if the scope? What time of day was it/how was the lighting? Was there significant mirage that could be causing some issues?

Lots of possible variables to consider, those are just a few.

The Crossfire II is their entry level scope, so all things being equal I wouldn't expect it to be a world beating scope. The fact that it (from what I gathered from your post) works for you out to 150-200 makes me think it may just be a combination of the limitations of the scope and the conditions you were shooting in.

When you first sighted in your scope, did you have it set on highest power?

I had a Vortex scope die on me, the reticle wouldn't adjust.

They honored their lifetime warranty, fixed it right up.

You’ve proven to yourself it is broken. Why ask? Call Vortex, get the replacement. Done in a week.
