I confess to having a BuckMark for 2 reasons; price, under $220 after clearance price and rebate, and because as a youngster who got an arm (not shoulder) full of 20ga single shot I was committed to never shooting again until my dad’s friend put a BuckMark in my hands to plink with. I immediately forgot my sore arm and the rest was instant nostalgia.

Still, that Browning is plenty accurate and now well behaved with a few tweaks.
Price and nostalgia are fine reasons.

I've never understood the appeal of the Buckmark

Just another option that happens to shoot well.

I picked up my Camper to replace a Neos. I spent lots of time shooting my friend’s MKIII 22/45 in that time, too.

What I like about the Buckmark is that it fits my hand better than those other two guns and has a better factory issue trigger. It was easy to add a top rail and red dot as well. Mine is a plain looking version, but the results on target are very satisfying.

I’ve owned a Buckmark Camper and a MKIV Target.

The Buckmark, like most European shaped guns fits my hand naturally. It was very easy to shoot with a better trigger than my MKIV.

The Ruger seems better built but does not feel as “natural” when being held although tight groups are still effortless.

I would be fine owning either one but prefer the Ruger for its durability and mod potential. Plus no consumable plastic buffers.

It's purely personal preference. I've owned multiples of the Ruger MKI, MKII and MKIII as well as three Buckmarks. For me, the grip angle of the standard Ruger auto just doesn't work. While the MKI and MKII I had were accurate, excellent guns, that was the reason I parted with them. For years it was the Buckmark or nothing. Then came the 22/45 MKIII. Now I have two of those as well. Can't really say that one is better than the other.

People are recommending the pistols they own. I do own several Ruger MKII's, and they are far better than the horrible MKIII's. Given that, buds who have the MKIV Ruger's like them. They are easy to take down and reassemble for cleaning.

And the S&W Victory pistol is a real winner, and I think the reason Ruger got off their duff and designed the MKIV.

If money is no object, how about a nice S&W M41?

The only bad think about a mk111, is people that don't read the manual.

Well, alright. As long as we’re showing off pistols …

I prefer the 1911 grip angle, so the 22/44 if it were a Ruger, I have built several Lite guns for folks and they are very accurate, nice to handle, the Voltquartzen trigger replacement kit makes them a beauty.
However, my personal favorite is my Browning Buck-mark, Silhouette 5” Target model with a 2 MOA Gilmore red dot. I have ponds on the farm, turtles 0, Buck-mark 11. Snakes 0, Buck-mark 4. I carry the Buck-mark many times rather than a rifle when I go around the ponds.

I have owned the Buckmark shoot the S&W a good bit, and own a Ruger MkII. You can't go wrong with either I kept the Ruger because I live the Volquartsen upgrades I did to the trigger and hammer.

With that said, I have not taken it out in a while. The Taurus TX22 had proven to be nearly as accurate and the Ruger eats crappy ammo better. I just enjoy shooting it a lot more. I have to leave the cheap Federal bulk at home though.

I bought a Neos when they first released. Mines accurate and actually had a good trigger. But the safety is a bit low. Rides into my hand with my high grip. It is part of the recall but I never sent it in yet

Another gun I have that some like is a 422 smith. I dont care a thing for that one. Lol. Id prefer a Jennings. The mag release is in a crappy spot. Doesnt feel good. Looks like it was roll mark stamped by a hot paperclip..... The sights suck and the accuracy isn't stellar. I wanted to like it. But id take a Mosquito first.

Had S&W 41, a 6” Colt diamond back and a S&W 17-6 .

They were nice yet not practical. I wanted a woods carry 22lr handgun.

The 317 is a pocket gun with ya when hiking or anywhere. The 617 is as accurate as any firearm out to 50 yards. Both pre lock and excellent choices. A6D6849D-6CB1-445F-867A-1CDC95604EA4.jpeg

I'm personally partial to Rugers. All of my .22 handguns are Ruger:

Ruger Standard Model
Ruger MkIV 22/45
Ruger Single-Six
Ruger Bearcat
I didn't plan it this way, but all of my .22's are Ruger:

Ruger 10/22
Ruger Wrangler
Ruger Mark IV Target

S&W 41 has accuracy all over the Browning (despite my love of Brownings) also having owned the Ruger I would absolutely put that in last place.
(and I really like other Rugers like Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Bearcat, Single Six)
I like a lot of guns - but really like accurate guns!

I bought a take-off Mk IV upper from VQ a few weeks back, added guts. Now I’ve spotted a threaded version, no sights, for $75. Nice part being, Volquartsen is chopping a 5.5” barrel down to 3.5” then re-crowning, something Ruger barrels often want for (good crown) from day 1.

If you’re leaning Ruger, you could buy a Tandemkross Kraken frame and BYOK kit for $560 that comes loaded with upgrades and have a race worthy, hunting ready pistol for $675 before optics and rail. I’m starting to lean that way.

Upper guts can be ordered here:

For a revolver I would go with the Ruger Singel Six Convertible, for an auto I go with the Ruger MK2 target model

I bought my Ruger MK1 Target new in 1976 to shoot with a local pistol club, it been flawless, until the envro shut our range down. I put a set of Ruger thumb rest grips on, and ordered a couple extra mags.I still have it and taking squirrel hunting from time to time. The NK 2"s improved the mag release and the hold the bolt open on the last shot that would be nice to have
