I hope this question isn't asked a lot. I am fairly new at posting here. My question is: what is a good scope around 100$ with zero-reset turrets. I own a Savage Axis in .223. I am looking for a scope that will accurately judge the distance much farther then my stock scope. I would really like to stay around 100$. However, if I should save up a little longer and buy something better; that is an option also.

Thanks!

Greetings to the poster from the Great State Of Tennessee! I spent a week near Cookeville recently.

I would recommend saving for a bit longer, using the scope you have until then. What type of shooting do you do? Hunting? Target? Both? At what distances?

If you're looking to judge distance, are you looking for a BDC (Bullet Drop Compensating) reticle?

Leupold makes a scope with a .223 bullet drop comp reticle.

They are fantastic. They cost a bit more, around $250 but you will be happy you got it and it will be with you past your ownership of that rifle. I think Nikon has one too.

To be perfectly honest there is no $100 scope (new) I can think of that is worth getting. Sorry if I sound like a scope snob, I am not.

You shop with cash in hand and you can frequently find a good older VX III at a gun show for well under $200. May not have a bdc reticle but the turrets will be much more precise and the warranty is lifetime and Leupold will honor it.

My sense is that the Nikon 223, the Leupold or the recent CMR H-Lux are all about the same. I went with the Nikon thinking they make the best glass but, in retrospect should have bought a U.S. product and gone with one of the others (I believe both others are U.S. and at least the Leupold is).
But as noted, I really think this is the minimum price range for acceptably performing scopes.
