When looking over the load tables for .45-70 one finds low pressure for Trapdoor rifles, medium pressure for lever actions, and high pressure for modern rifles. Where does the H&R fit in?

I highly doubt I'll ever go past the Trapdoor pressures, since that's more than adequate for any hunting I'll ever do with the rifle, but it's nice to know I could have an elephant load lying around just in case we're ever attacked by wild elephants.;)

Actually, the elephant scenario is not as far fetched as it sounds. A circus has it's winter headquarters at Hugo, OK, 25 miles to the west of me. Several years ago a couple of elephants escaped and wandered into the wilderness around Hugo Lake. It took about three months to find them. Then a few years later a tiger escaped. They got serious about finding it! The National Guard found it with infrared equipment in a helicopter a couple of nights later.

So far I haven't had much luck finding an accurate load. I've been trying Varget for smokeless, then Goex 3f, 777 2f, and Pyrodex RS. I've got some new loads with 5744, some more Varget, some homemade black and some more Goex that I'll try tomorrow I hope. I'm sure part of the problem is bullets, I bought a bag of cast 405 grain, and they are not very consistent as far as weight goes.

I reckon I answered my own question. Just looked at their website and since the same rifle is chambered in calibers like .30-06, .500S&W Magnum, .450Marlin and others, it's most likely safe with any .45-70 I load up.

I know they make high intensity rifle calibers on that action, but I would not push my luck with extremely heavy loads in .45-70 with its large head diameter to deliver thrust.

You will not likely be happy with bulk rifle bullets made like pistol bullets for shooting at 1/10th the range. Most serious shooters cast their own with meticulous QC.
I buy from Dave Jennings and do pretty well:
