Does anyone tuck their BUG into their waistband between 11:00 and 1:00 while driving? I know it's in violation of rule #2 but it's a lot easier to get to than the Beretta at 4:30.

Got my J-frame listed on my permit today! Reeehaw!

Yup, more like between 9 and 10 o'clock tho'. Have even inserted between shirt and waistband , with the button undone.

Rule 2...debatable perhaps , however, think about IWB at~ 4 :30 is that a violation? ( my strong side carry preference) What about the IWB at 9 o'clock positioned for left hand ( my weak side)...different if the gun is accessible by strong hand ?( right hand for me). What about folks that do in fact carry crossdraw. Belly bands...debatable or not...we will hear thoughts I'm sure...good question Skunk.

It doesn't matter what position you carry your HG, on your waist. All positions cover you to some extent. If you don't believe me check out the incident reports at the "big three' firearms training schools.

I use the appendix carry (11:00-1:00) about half the time. It conceals better and it's just as fast.

Rule three is the order of the day. Since you are covering yourself in all positions, keep your finger straight and use your brain as your #1 safety device.

Skunk, as for in the car use. It is definitely a good way to go. It may not be the best, but for a BUG it is one of the best. JMO

Reason for the BUG is that I can't do it with the Beretta, and by blousing (sp?) your t-shirt or whatever undershirt you are using.

I should have gotten the concealed hammer model since the hammer jabs at my belly. It's gonna give me a Thai-food magnitude stomach problem if I get into a car wreck with that thing there

I offset it a little...I rather have it point at my femoral artery than my wee-wee

Interesting dilemma...

(A) Dead
(B) Wish you were dead

Personally, I'd probably pick (B)... but then again, I'm married. ;)

My BUG (when I feel the need to pack it along) goes into the pouch on the rear of the passenger seat. Plenty easy for me to grab in a hurry.

A lot of people view the BUG as a small piece to use in a pinch but mine packs a lot more punch than my primary. I do not carry two guns on my person. It's just nice to know that I have an alternative in case my primary gun can't get the job done.

I'm going to install a Fobus Roto-Tilt holster and mount setup in the Benz soon to deal with accessiblity issues.

except for a shoulder holster... or a cross draw rig.

skunky:

i am confused. my ccw is in the usual IWB at 4:30
ignoring the clothing necessary in Michigan in winter,
when drawing, gun comes out, points at radio
then follows curve of steering wheel...
doesn't point at any body parts :scrutiny:

Skunk...no offense...you ain't got a belly.:D

Talk to us in about 20 yrs when gravity kicks in...:)

Ok just for you I stuck a 3" RB K frame as I described. I have a little "pooch", being almost 49 ...I didn't earn it so much as it is sign of..err..err...

The hammer didn't poke me, and if I were to be in a wreck...the reality is the seat belt and shoulder strap will do more damage than the gun.

Having worked in a OR...seat and shoulder do bad things to folks. Ladies are especially susceptible to chest damage by the should strap , I highly suggest ladies, no matter how endowed, get a padded velcro cover to protect them.

The Fubus works, as do many other suggestions, fiddle with to find a comfortable spot. Thigh pocket sounds good to me.

BUG in a car? Think ankle holster! I normally carry 2 guns only when I'm

planning to be in the car a lot. I can reach it with either hand easily, and

can draw without anyone knowing it. It also doesn't get forgotten in the

car when I get out.

Your right about hammerless. My BUG is a SS airweight Centenial.

doc,

I think that Skunky is referring to breaking Rule #3 while doing the Mexican carry between 11:00 and 1:00. I don't think he is referring to a seated draw from 4:30.

Since its a backup i imagine you still have your primary. So why not just toss the BUG under the seat or into a center console?

Yes those seat covers are quite handy.
Fobus Works well as mentioned.

We didn't always have such problems in the "old days"...we just observed 4 rules and went on with it.

More things change, more they remain the same it seems...if kept simple and don't get caught up in stuff.

Women wore dresses and skirts when I grew up, they didn't have pcs of paper giving permission to carry either. So a widow women neighbor carried a pistol always...might be the 6" revolver, smaller 4" or the "tiny 2" she called it. Most often she carried a Gov't model. Driving in a Nurses uniform...a dress back then...stuck in the Kleenex box when driving , stuck it in her purse at work and locked purse in locker.

Here it is 2000 something, got a cute petite neighbor doing residency, wears scrubs and on call all the time. Carries a 5" 1911 , an old med reference book has been cut out, gun fits, she carries...don't carry a purse, lab coat , steth, backpack with extra clothes, undies, tolietries and maybe a book for class...put the 1911 in a box of kleenex on console covers with lab coat.

She did updgrade to a Fobus dealie, got a lockable box mounted to put gun in since now-a-days hospitals off limits when she arrives. Lab coat covers the gun ...but at 4 in morning coming or going to any of the hospitals she is packing wearing scrubs, no belts, no holsters, no worries.

She asked my thoughts, we talked about her needs, and implemented. Later I told her dad to get a Fobus...she went to visit , he installed it, gave daughter a case of practice ammo and defensive ammo. Her Graduation present is a Caspian 1911 being built, and a new IWB for those times she actually gets to wear pants / jeans and a belt. She has two 1911s one primary , one bug...daddy wants his LT wt commander back...the BUG gun. :p

Some of my favorite body parts are located between 11 and 1. And I don't trust mexican carry much anyway. Try an ankle holster or a shoulder holster if you're going to be behind the wheel a lot.

My grand father, who hauled cars out of detroit for many years used a paddle type holster so that he could carry cross draw in the cab and then 4:00 when he was loading/unloading the truck. Always had a work shirt for concealment.

I drive a newer ford Taurus and had allot of trouble finding a place to mount a holster. I now keep a full size BUG/Car Gun in the seat pocket of the passenger seat. I can get it out allot faster then my S40 which is my primary carry gun. I have been thinking about trying to install a holster somewhere else but haven't been able to find a place that is easier to access then then rear seat pocket.

I drive a taxi - carry my primary in a lh shoulder holster (I'm right handed) as most bg will be to my right and/or rear. I can draw from the shoulder rig with my right hand when I need to, though not real fast. Carry my bug in a padded nylon holster that I cut off of an ill-fitting shoulder holster on the outside of my left leg tucked into my boot top with pants pulled over to cover.

The vehicle mount that Fobus sells, as already mentioned, works great. I've used them in two different vehicle for the last couple of years with no problems. I have them mounted directly in front of the driver's seat, and it offers quick access even with a seatbelt. When I get in the truck my primary goes in the Fobus. Before I exit, it goes back on my person.
