Building a DPMS LR-308 from parts

I suspect I've entered into the world of building an LR-308 without adequate preparation. I've purchased a less-than-complete upper described as "Brand new DPMS LR-308 upper receiver assembly. Bolt & bolt carrier assembly is not included. Includes: 18" Bull Barrel, .308 Win. Railed Gas Block Aluminum Free Float Tube Lo-Pro Billet Upper Receiver Charging Handle". I know that I now need a complete lower (and please confirm that as I assume, an AR-15 lower will not work with a LR-308 upper) and bolt/bolt carrier. What I'm not clear on is if I will have a complete working upper if I also purchase a DPMS Bolt Assembly DPMS LR-308 Matte http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=992029 and a DPMS Bolt Carrier DPMS LR-308 Matte http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=416303. There seems to be some important parts missing from the descriptions/pictures, e.g., bolt key, firing pin. Thanks for any help or pointers to parts list/diagrams.

You need a complete BCG and a lower made for the .308, not the regular AR-15.

Good luck finding the parts to build it.

I was planning on swapping out my slick-side upper receiver with the A3 upper. Yesterday, I called DPMS to find out the backorder time on the A3 upper receiver.

They told me that if I ordered now, I could expect it in 3-5 months. At the moment, I may consider either leaving it alone or calling Fulton Armory and talk to them about thier FAR-308 Titan A4 upper receiver.

Thanks for all the help. I've found a schematic at DPMS that quickly shows many additional parts in the BCG not included in the bolt and carrier themselves. I have an inquiry into DPMS to see if they will sell a BCG as they don't show one in their online store. Fulton http://www.fulton-armory.com/TitanParts.htm for $290 looks like good way to go if they can fill an order.

Not sure what you saw, but the entire BCG is complete.

It will cost you a lot more to piece together a LR 308 versus buying a complete rifle.

I was tempted to order a 260 upper for my DPMS, until I was quoted $800ish for just the upper.

I bought my 18" for $800 and my 24" for $900, so there is no way I was willing to spend $800 on just the upper.

I'm seeing stripped DPMS 308 lowers for $350. I'd hate to see how much that project is going to cost you in the end.
