Hi,

I found a barreled mosin receiver online, stripped of course. What does it take to put one of these together? Headspacing? Difficulty? Tools needed? The costs of the parts needed to put it together, or just a list of the parts needed? Is it worth it at $32 a barreled receiver in good condition?

Thanks in advance!

I'd imagine you could buy a working rifle way cheaper then that will turn out to be buying it one piece at a time from the parts vender's.

Definitely cheaper to just buy a whole mosin if you want all the parts. Examine the bore carefully on yours. I have never seen one with a perfect bore, most have at least some degree of pitting and even (yikes!) rust. More economical to just buy a good rifle. That being said, right now I am building a scout rifle on a mosin nagant platform, spending hundreds of dollars on Timney trigger, custom stock etc. Stupid economically but just plain fun to build something unique, and its a mosin so if I f*** it up who cares I can buy another one for $120.

Forgot to mention, it is real easy to put one of these together. They were designed to be issued to illiterate conscripted soldiers, and I think they are the most ridiculously simple guns to put together. Also I have swapped all the bolts around randomly on all my mosins and they ALL headspace perfect. I would still get a no-go anyway, never hurts to check on a build.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah that's pretty much my line of thinking, something fun to build and if I mess up, who cares!
