Is one design more reliable than the other? What about durability and longevity? Overall, how is reliability compared to a standard steel 30 rounder?

i feel Chinese drum design, when properly made, is superior to Russian style drums in all aspects.

as for comparison to 30 rounders. like all things in life, as you get more complicated and add more moving parts, reliability goes down. while iv never heard or experienced any problems with the drums iv shot common sense and logic would force me to admit that caveat

I really enjoy AK/RPK guns, but my interest in $160 drum-mags falls short of what they are asking for it by orders of magnitude.
