Ok,

I might have over-reacted last night to Heller's victory over DC. I went out and put some money down on an AK-47 that has a Bulgarian Receiver, but US made furniture. In fact, the stock actually kind of fit me vice the others I have tried. Price for this puppy is 650.00.

I think it's a little on the high side, but I like the feel of the rifle. Too much?

For a good AK like a Bulgarian? I don't think $650 is too high, a good AK costs about as much as an entry-mid level AR. I think that is a great way to celebrate, and I don't regret buying my AK (Yugo Underfold) a year ago either. With elections looming, the prices on these rifles may be anywhere.

Make sure the gun has 14x1mm muzzle threads, as it will make it much easier to attach different muzzle brakes.

There are 2 types of AK magazines to stay away from: anything American made and the Bulgarian magazines with the little bullet pictures on the side.

Otherwise, as far as magazines go, Bulgarian waffle magazines and commie steel ones are the best.

Bulgarian Waffles seem to be the best, though I don't have any. You can't really go wrong with the Com-Bloc steel mags, though they can get heavy. It's kinda hard to make a bad AK magazine.

Stop the presses!

There are Bulgarian made Kalashnikovs coming in that are NOT Arsenal of Bulgaria products.

These are made on Bulgarian stamped receivers, with rejected Arsenal parts ( think WASR ). An individual on one of the Kalashnikov forums got one of these and the inside of the gas block was severely rusted.

So, unfortunately, one can no longer just equate "Bulgarian" with " the finest quality the marketing department wants you to believe ".

Nonsense. Surefire mags are U.S. made, and of excellent quality. They are, however, Saiga specific.
