I just picked up a Bulgarian Makarov today in 9x18 from Centerfire. Does anyone know if it will feed the hornady 9x18 hollowpoints? It seems like a well made gun, and it came with two grips and two mags.Any IWB holster suggestions? I think I want to wear the makarov as my carry gun sometimes
instead of my XD subcompact.

I have four Maks. Two Bulgies, One East German and a Russian. They all feed hollow points.

The Hornady will feed fine and is accurate but be sure to test it.
The gun is accurate.

While I like the Hornady JHP XTP bullet but Hornady, for some reason has loaded the 9x18 a little weak. The standard velocity for the 90-95 grain 9x18 is 1,000 FPS. The factory Hornady I chronographed was 921 FPS.

But, I don't know what, if any, better JHP defense load is available.

At one time Silver and Brown Bear had a 120 and 115 grain JHP load that did 1,000 FPS but due to the radical hollow point the round jammed feeding in a lot of Makarovs.

Enjoy your new gun. They are keepers and their price continues to climb.:)

I have 2 Maks. Both Bulgarian. One is Circle 10 & the other is Arsenal marked. Both different grades of shape. One is beat up & the other looks alot nicer. They both run like clocks. I usually run S&B FMJ or Brown Bear or Silver Bear in FMJ whatever I can find. Never put HPs through them. I can't imagine them not running anything. Good little guns at a good price. Enjoy yours.

Thanks for the replies and info guys. THR is one of the best forums on the internet. I ordered some hornady and now begins my four week wait until I get them. I will just shoot FMJ wolf and brown bear through it until then. I cant get over how well built this little gun is. . I am happy as hell with my purchase. I am going to shoot it again Wednesday. I found a Falco IWB holster on ebay that a few people recommended. It is cheap but apparently works very will for concealed carry.

When I carried a Mak as a CCW, I loaded it with wolf black box 100gr FMJ and never felt under gunned. While the 9x18 cartridge is a bit more powerful than .380, IMOO it still falls into the marginal caliber category. I carried the heaviest FMJ round I could find because I wanted maximum penetration.

I don't know about yours, but my Bulgarian Mak fires them just fine, no problems. My Russian Mak also fires them just fine, no problems. Both of my Maks fire Wolf Performance FMJ, Wolf Military Classics FMJ, Brown Bear FMJ, Silver Bear FMJ & HP, Hornady HP, all without a single glitch. :D

I've owned quite a few Mak's and they all fed whatever I had in the mag. It is one reliable pistol!!
