My wife purchased a new Walther PK 380 recently and fired some 75 rounds through it with Winchester 380 full-jacketed ammunition. It performed flawlessly.

However, when I disassembled the gun for cleaning, I noticed that the slide has a slight bulge on both sides near the shell ejection port. The gun seems to perform perfectly despite this bulge but I can't help but think that it's not supposed to be there - or is it?

And if it's not supposed to be there how did it get there?

Walther PK380 is a locked breech design using a tilting barrel. Any "bulge" in slide in the area of the ejection port could be for strengthening the lockup area but it does not show when zooming in on the illustration in the PDF of the Walther brochure on the PK380.

There's also photos at http://www.gunblast.com/Walther-PK380.htm

The slide does have the look of a squashed hexagon from some angles.

It's as if the slide was somehow loaded like you would load a vertical column. However in this case the column/slide was overloaded and it buckled slightly.

I'll post some pictures when I get home tonight.

Ok, here are some pictures of the slide bulge on my wife's brand new PK 380. It was difficult to get just the right light and angle to make the bulge show up in a photograph, but I think you can get an idea of what I'm dealing with here. The bulge doesn't seem to affect the fit form or function of the gun, but it doesn't seem right either. What's more I can't imagine how the bulge was created? Has anyone seen or heard of anything similar?

Thanks and regards,

Jason

Something very not right there... I think I'd send it back to the factory and I wouldn't be asking for a repair or a replacement, I'd want my money back!

mine does not have that bulge. thankfully for you, s&w handles walther's customer service, so you'll either get it made right or get your money back.

If brand new take it back to the dealer. Or send it off tho S&W I just had to send a 500magnum back they paid for shipping and took them a week.

I sent it off on Tuesday I got it back on Wednesday the following week.

My PPK/s was junk out of the box. It went back to S&W and they made it right. 8 - 9 week turn around times are not unheard of.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Yes, something definitely does look amiss. However, the gun shoots perfectly. So I'm hesitant to ship the damn thing back and after weeks of waiting, perhaps get something in return that doesn't perform as well.

What's more, the bulge doesn't seem to bother my wife and it's her gun. But on the the other hand, it's not right and blah, blah, blah...
