Hey guys

I got some sierra gamekings from the early 90's or maybe even 80's

I loaded them and they shot well

sierra gamekings 117gr SPBT

And now I have bought some modern bullets that are what i hope is the same bullet.

My question is, if they are from the same company, same product, will they perform the same?

They do look identical.

If the bullets are made by the same company and have the same product/catalog number, they are probably very nearly the same bullet. I say very nearly because over the years as suppliers change and tooling wears out and must be replaced, some subtle differences are to be expected, but they should generally be the same bullet and their performance should be comparable.

Tooling wears out and is replaced. Differences creep in. I have some Hornady XTPs that are slightly, but visibly different than my last purchase. You can buy Eley Match or Tenex .22 LR by the machine it was loaded on, the lot number, and the velocity.

If they shoot well, they will take game just as well as they did in the 80's/90's....Seeing as how the maker still catalogs them, they must have worked pretty darn good back then.

Sierra is a great company and takes care to put out good bullets. Will they be identical to the ones from the 80s/90s? Dunno, but I bet they are still very good bullets, and the only real way to know if your gun will like them is too shoot some, but I would buy a box with confidence and try them.

I cant tell the difference in POI theres no crazy fliers and such, seems all good to me!

I loaded game kings through the 80s and early 90s. Many friends gave me boxes of 7mm 175 gr because they broke up at high speed. They worked well at 2700fps. About 2001 or so I bought a new box and they wouldn't hold together. I changed back to hornady interlocks round nose and got outstanding performance. Now hornady stopped production on the round nose. I fear the eld-x will perform like the remington bronze points of the 70s which cost me the biggest bull of my life. When I run out of interlock round nose I guess I will have to go to core lokts. Its a shame that when companies have something that really works, they feel the need to change. If you find something you like-stock up.
