Went to the range today with a friend :(to try out his new Ruger LCP. The first round was fine, the second round was a dud and only primer ignited and lodged the bullet in the barrel. What is the best way to dislodge the bullet? Any help would be greatly appreciated, he had a real sad face...

Thanks, Snubby 38

P.S. This was new ammo, not reloads.

If you don't have a brass rod, a wooden dowel will work just fine. I keep two pieces in my shooting duffel for just that thing - one fits 9mm/.357 and the other fits .45. I've saved myself one trip back home when a squib would have otherwise ruined my shooting day. Those dowels have also helped a few other folks.

Q

If you use a wood dowel, make sure its an oak (hardwood) dowel.

I have brass range rods in .350" and .420" made just for this purpose.

If you have a hard time finding a dowel rod, do you own a mossberg 500? Take the barrel off and you will find one in the shell tube. Make sure you put it back when you're done.

Remove the barrel and put it in wood blocks or a padded vice before you try to pound that round out. You'll likely be very surprised how tight that sucker is in there.

What brand was the ammo?

Are they making ammo in China now?

I need to remember to put some lenghts of hardood dowel in my range target pail.

Not where I live you won't find a "plug." Besides, you would need to remove the entire tube, which means heating up the receiver with a heat gun to unscrew the tube from the aluminum receiver.

I've had primer-only dud. Three times, as a matter of fact.
The bullet barely sticks in the lands at the end of the chamber. Just a gentle tap dislodges it.

If the bullet is 1/4 way down the barrel, it wasn't primer-only. There was a light powder charge.

What brand of ammo???

Mine all fell out when I removed the barrel and turned the shotgun upsidedown. Didn't need a torch or anything. They fell out the hole where the barrel screw goes into to hold the barrel on.

The ammo is "Dynamit Nobel 380 HP". Purchased a case from Southern Ohio Guns two years ago in sealed battle packs, never had a problem in hundreds of rounds....
Thanks for all the useful info., it's appreciated.
