hello
ive been making my own bulletlube for some time now , since i find that the lubes you buy are to hard for my intended use , hard to get and way to expencive.
my bulletlube is made of 1 part beeswax and 1 part molycote br 2 grease.
i have a small amount in a stainless theapot , with a lit ofcourse , and if the sizer is nearly empty , i heat the pot on a stoveburner [low] , and stirr the mixture till it flows through the spout of the pot , wich i cut off a little to create
a bigger funnel , since there is not a whole lot of mixture in the theapot this goes rather fast . i pour the warm mixture direct in my lyman lubesizer.
works great for me this way !
its an inexpencive and easy way to get your own bullets lubed this way .
maby this post is helpfull for those who want to start making lube .
what do you guys think of my mixture and way of doing things ?
more important , how do you do it , and with what mixture ?

I use ALOX® 350 & Bees wax from White Label Lube

MOLYKOTE(R) BR-2 PLUS GREASE-Inhalation: Material is not likely to present an inhalation hazard at ambient conditions. However, if
material is heated or high vapor concentration is attained, central nervous system depression
may occur, which is characterized by drowsiness, dizziness, confusion or loss of
coordination.

thanks for the info about the molycote !
ill be looking for some new grease now , most likely the alox lube you mentioned.
dont know if i can get it in holland , but will defenitly try to.

yes elkins45 , i took a look at the threads on castboolits yesterday ,
and i cleaned out my "old bulletlube"and made a fresh one today.
i melted some beeswax and added an even part of white petroleum jelly.
the result is a nice yellow lube that isn t the messy one i made earlyer.
i found this mixture at castboolits , and it looks real good to me.
havent tested it just yet , but yes very promissing.
my intended use is for .38 spec targetloads with the wadcutter , and some light
rifle applications. bonus : seems like a good bulletlube for blackpowder too.
hmmm.. i kind of finding myself doing things the old way .
.38 spec , homecasted wadcutter ,bullseye powder , homemade "big eds red"
gunoil , a recipe for bulletlube from wayyyyy back , a smith mod 14 revolver.

im turning out to be a real traditional shooter.... and i like it ! :D

I have enough of a mess around my loading room, WITHOUT making my own lube. I'll gladly pay someone else to do that who knows a thing or two about lubricants.

When Lars makes lube so inexpensively, why should I bother to make my own?

I use the carnuba red, while it DOES need a heater to use it, so what? Get a lyman heater, use it. It's a better lube in that it's not sticky after lubing boolits.

Using a lube that's barely solid @ room temperature, means a hot day will cause that lube to melt, then flow off the boolit. Loading boolits with all the lube on the bottom of the box does nothing to prevent leading.

i think youre right snuffy , if the lube is inexpencive , why bother making some?
but i live in holland , few casters over here , and the factory lube is difficult to get , in fact i must specially order some through retail.
yes , your inexpencive lube would be very expencive before i get my hands on it.
besides that , maby a bigger factor , i like making my own stuff .
it gives me at least some independence. :D
