I just purchased CZ 75 Compact (9mm)

I would love to know what bullets you guys would recommend.

I probably would keep a case of hollowpoint in the safe with the gun to use for home defense. But use FMJ for target practice at the range (also for cost reason).

Any brand and kind you recommend? I also noticed PMC 9mm bullets are hard to find these days. Are they gone?

I like the Remington Golden Saber -- I use it in .45 ACP and .38 spl (though I've switched over to Buffalo Bore's 158-gr round).

From what I've read, it makes an excellent 9mm defensive load, too.

For range ammo, the best prices I see are the 250-round boxes of Remington UMC at Gander Mountain -- it seems to beat most online sources, especially when you factor shipping in.

Well for JHP, my personal preference is for the Federal HST, the 124 +P and the 147/147+P are great. I'm sure the standard pressure 124 is great too, but a little more is a little more better right? They have great expansion and penetrate well enough.

The CZ 75 will likely digest anything you can stuff into the magazine, my PCR has made me proud by not ever having a malfunction, not once. Great pistol you got, and when you can, I highly reccomend the Kadet kit, it is super reliable, digests all the .22 I have put into mine (everything from Remington subsonic and Aguila 60 grain Sniper SubSonic right up to CCI Stingers and Aguila Supermax) and will give you lots of training and practice relatively cheaply.

Yup, that will be my next big purchase.

+1....

I'm not sure, I've never used the standard 124 HST, and usually if I buy defensive JHP loads if I get 124 I just get +P. I can't say I really feel that much difference in them, but oddly the 124+P felt a little lighter on recoil to me than the 147 standard pressure HST. Either one isn't bad though. Both perform supremely well, but the 147 expands a little bit more and penetrates a little bit more.

I think modern ammo manufacturers are going to start moving towards heavier, longer bullets with longer petals that have a hard time rolling back on themselves, that is how the HST works. The front of the jacket folds back and sort of props up the front of the core, so the six arms of the expanded bullet don't just roll backwards and form a round profile. The heavier HST bullets have longer striations in the jacket and so they probably have slightly longer arms to work with. You can tell the difference between the 124 and 147 bullets, the 124s actually look a little more aesthetically pleasing, with a slightly wider mouth, but the 147 is the tiny bit better performer.
