Not exactly handloading, but it's the closest forum match... I think handloaders would be the ones to ask.

Basic question: Does bullet weight or exit velocity alter POI more?

Expanded question:
My SP101 fixed sights are factory-calibrated for 158gr full power loads. It hits POA with those rounds. I know it shoots low with lighter bullets.

Buffalo Bore makes a reduced recoil/flash 158gr round with a Speer Gold Dot bullet advertised at 1100 fps.

Full power Federal Hydra-Shock 158gr bullets hit POA and exit at 1240fps.

So... does the exit velocity or bullet weight more greatly affect POI?

Will the POI change because it's slower, or remain the same (at least within 15 or so yards) because it's the same bullet weight?

Thanks!

I know with my Ruger P-94 40SW has fixed sights and when I loaded up some 155gr bullets they shot several inches low. As I increased the loading which in turn increased the velocity which also made the point of impact even lower. After moving back to 180gr projectiles my trusty p-94 shot point of aim again. But to answer your question, I would think that the reduced 1100fps loads would probably shoot a tad higher than the 1240fps loads, but then again it might not even be enough to notice.
