New to the board. Hello all. Quick question. I purchased Berry’s bullets. 40 s&w/10 mm 180 gr. flat point .401 diameter. I checked several bullets and they all come in at 147 gr. Been reloading for a number of years with a break. I can adjust powder to the actual weight. Just wondering if this normal. All comments are welcome, thank you in advance!

That's very odd. I have seen variances by as much as 3 grains on either side, but what you are listing indicates what is typically a 9mm weight. I have had a couple of instances (not from Berry's) where a couple of bullets were 147Gr 9mm FP bullets (after measuring). I did a quick search on the Alliant Reloaders section and the Hodgdon reloading site and neither list 147gr 40 S&W bullet weight. If you are sure they are 40 S&W diameter bullets, I'd get with Berry's and ask them about it.

Stuff happens! They will make things OK for you. A habit that I got into years ago was to weigh and size check my bullets when I get them. There have been a couple times over the years that mistakes have been made. Sometimes it will be the wrong profile or HP instead of jacketed even. The person packing the product or the one picking a box in the warehouse can make a mistake. I feel it is better to find out when I get them than the dayI run out and I need to use them.

You’ll almost always find a grain or three in weight variance in a box of bullets, but you were right to put that one out for an answer like you did .

Stay safe.

To the OP. Your thread is timely in that I just received an order of Sierra 110gr. Varminter for my .308. Caliper is in hand and the bullets are being checked.

Something I am remiss in doing more often than not. (I hang my head)

VERY unusual with reputable bullet brand/manufacturer.

Then again -- always pays to check:

In this case, I just boil the lube off; PC them; and load for the 32-20 Marlin, Taylor SAA/Smokewagon, and Ruger 30 Carbine using QuickLoad
-- a no-Brainer --
(which is a good thing)
:)

Follow up. For those that replied to my post, thank you! Just spoke with a Berry’s representative. The bullets that I initially ordered will be shipped to me. They were very professional, apologetic and responsive. Berry’s have proven that they have a quality product and excellent customer service!
