Um, I'm looking to pick up an AK-74, an RPK, and an "upgrade" to my current Romanian AK-47 over the next 6 months.

I've heard about the AK put out by WASR, and I'm wondering if anyone can give me a manual 'o arms, and a range report. Is the bullpup worth getting or is it crap. Because I've also heard they have undefolders right now.

I still would like the description of the bullpup if possible.

What's trigger linkage like (any problems), and how do you charge the thing, etc. Thanks.

I handled one a few years ago and I really liked it's weight and the balance of it. Unfortunately, that's about all I liked. The controls on a standard AK aren't great to begin with, but when you move everything back about a foot they become stupendously bad. Now you've got a safety and a charging handle up by your ear and on the wrong side. The trigger goes from pretty good to awful. The sights are located about 4 inches above the bore and the length of pull is the right size for a center player in the NBA. But perhaps the biggest problem is the magazine. Since AK mags have such a pronounced curvature and load by rocking backward they tend to interfere with the pistol grip.

I examined one of the Century "bullpup" WASR's at a gun show recently.

I'm not sure I'd take it if you gave it to me. :barf:

An abomination

The WASR's have a bad enough rep in conventional AK configuration.
I don't think anything good can come of it.

How tall and flimsy is that front sight?
Is there anywhere to mount an optic on this thing?

It's about 4" tall and yes they do mount optics on them. They replace the rear sight with a Picatinny rail so the scope ends up sitting about 5" further back than it should. Ergonomically it's just about the worst thing I've ever seen.

Yes the charging handle would strike the face of a lefty! I handled one and it sure was lots of rifle in a compact fast pointing kind of package.
