Oh man, my favorite shooting range burned down yesterday. It was actually the office that burned, but still, the range will be closed for an undetermined period of time.

I suggested they use some of our membership fee's to purchase an inexpensive / old mobile home for now. Honestly, I don't know if they would consider it, but I know of several mobile homes that are free for the taking. They've been completely gutted, so they would be perfect as an office. That way, we could at least get it back up and running in about a week if they start searching for one now.

I have an annual membership, so I don't really want spend the money at another range, and the other ranges are at least 50 miles away from my house, super inconvenient for me. And thanks to the environmental activists, my other favorite shooting spots have been closed by the BLM. NRA has been working on this and has filed some law suits, but things have been moving slow in that regard.

Such is life.

Sorry for your loss.

I'd consider renting a portable office like they use on construction sites rather than a gutted mobile home.

Thanks Gary, I'll pass that on, maybe we can't things up and running quicker by doing something like that. It's not a big office facility, probably 600 - 700 square feet, if, so I don't personally see any reason why that idea wouldn't suffice for the time being.

Yea, I just heard about that today (oddly enough, it was on an online news site, not an email from the club). I wonder if it had anything to do with the welding shop behind the office?

I guess I'll be going to Pima County's SE Regional Park. Its actually a shorter drive, and I like that they have range officers on duty to call cease fires every 15 minutes.

Wow - that SUCKS!

I'm blessed in that a friend of mine has a small range setup behind his barn.
There's nothing behind that for atleast a mile.

I hope your range comes up with a solution very soon.
You might consider talking to other members.
A united voice carries a lot of weight.

My brother and I considered an old Mobile home a while back for use as a hunting cabin. Found out that the cost to move it to the property was more than the cost of building something nicer from scratch. Maybe another member with a travel trailer/toy hauler would lend/rent it to the range till insurance pays to rebuild the old office.

You're in AZ, The gun-friendliest state in the lower 48, otherwise I'd be curious about arson as a possibility. A large range/shop was burned not far from us when land development and subdivisions were getting close and builders had been griping about the 'gun nuts'--who had been there for decades. I don't think anyone was ever charged. Just a passing thought. Good luck finding a temporary fix & rebuilding!

At least it can get back in operation.

I have/had an indoor range a few blocks from my house. It changed ownership and was closed down for remodeling in May. Supposed to reopen in August. Still isn’t reopened, but I just got an email that it should now be operational by the end of October.

There hasn't been any mention of suspected arson, but I know for certain that there is a neighbor that has been complaining about the noise for a number years. But considering the the closest house is probably 6 or 8 miles away, probably more actually, so I really fail to see their issue. The range is located well outside the city limits, and is bordered by public land. As a result, the range operators have agreed to not open the range prior to 7 am.

We bought one of those and set it up as a "Range House" on some farm land where we would shoot. Thinking maybe 25 years ago we got it for $500 used and delivered to the farm. That thing worked out great!
