Burris Fastfire protective base?

Hello,

Im looking into using a Burris Fastfire II as my primary optic on a AR and am looking for opinions on the "winged" protective bases that are available for the sight.

Such as this one.

Or this one.



So is anyone here using one of these micro red dots in a protective mount like these?
Are you happy with them, or should I just stick with the plain picatinny/weaver base?

So not many people are running these as primary sights I take it?

I run one on my RIA 1911. But there is no room to mount any kind of "wings". Its held up very well.
