Hi there,
i have bought for my Smith Wesson 617 6" revolver a Weaver base. Now, i'd like to install an optic on it but i don't want to use a regular scope as i want it to be more "fun gun", because most of the time it would be used on the 25 yards firing range.

With some searching and comparing i'm getting down to two options: the Burris FastFire II 4 MOA open style dot, or the Bushnell TRS 25 3 MOA tube style dot.

I'd like to hear your opinions. I'm first look for funcionality - what's the best dot for the 25 yrds, .22LR shooting, then looks have their part. I don't like a dot so big that seems a revolver with a grenade launcher on top.

So far my opinion are:

FastFire II, PRO: better looks, more compact, good quality and reviews, seems well suited for an handgun; CONS: no light settings (does it auto), small window, bigger MOA dot.

TRS-25, PRO: overall compact dot, ease to set and access to controls, good quality and reviews, smaller (3 MOA) dot than Fastfire; CONS: bigger and bulkier than FFII, less streamlined design (turrets and intensity settings), don't know how would look on a revolver.

Sooo... they are a really close match for me, with the FastFire ahead for the looks, and the TRS-25 for the functionality and dot size...

I still have to hear from my dealer what the prices are, living overseas maybe they have a close price tag here... but before price, i'm really undecided which is best.

Thanks for your opinions!!

so, no one? help me, thanks... even just some info. Actually i'm going blind in the "red dot" department... thanks againg, BUMP

i've been using the fastfire II for over a year on two semi-autos. it is awesome.

the small window is a big pro, not a con

Thanks,
how do you rate the dot size? I have good vision, and it is my understanding that a smaller dot is more accurate than a bigger one, then the rest is up to the shooter.

The most of the dots are 4 MOAs, but i've seen some even at 2 MOA but or they are very bulky or they are very expensive (thinking Ultradot L/R)

I'm interested in your opinion, thanks

You may not like the looks (and that's okay), but the gold standard for .22 red dots is the UltraDot.

I have 2 UltraDots sitting on top of a Ruger Mark II and an S&W 625. Super dependable, very clear, awesome sights.

I have a FastFire II that bounces between a different Ruger Mark II, a Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag and an AR-15. I also really really like it, the size is great, holds zero, is lo profile, etc. But the dot does seem to cover more of the target than the UltraDot.

I have the Burris on a buckmark and I love it. The dot is plenty small for a pistol and very clear. I don't have experience with the Bushnell.

Thanks for all your input.

I've seen the UltraDot and it would be the best choice: it has 2 or 4 MOA dots, very well made and i like the rounded window;
Now problem is, i live overseas (italy) and this is what happened when i had a call to my dealer:

The burris is priced close to 300 euros, and the Ultradot 340 at midway...

Sooo... I'm thinking about buying in the U.S. Do you know a good online seller that ships international? Actually i only know Natchezss.

Thanks !!
