Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 vs. Sightron SII 3-9x42.

Does anyone have any info as to the comparison of these two scopes? I've checked around and the prices are very similar. It would be used on a .243 with max range shots around the 300 yd. mark.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

of those two, get the Burris. I've never had a problem with a Burris scope, and the couple of times I have contacted customer service, they have been top notch (once I managed to lose my adjustment covers while at the range, and once my dog chewed up the scope cover--called to get replacements, in both instances they sent them out immediately for free!) I also like how for some reason the crosshairs on burris scopes stay black, rather than turning that metallic color in certain conditions like some scopes (at least they did on the old fullfields--don't know as much on the newer scopes since beretta took over). I will admit it's a huge strike against them now that beretta has taken them over, but in the past they have been good solid scopes with great service.

Sightron's--just haven't been impressed. I saw all the ravings online and firgured I'd try one out. Got the rimfire one for a new 22. Poor optics, poor finish, never even mounted it, just sent it back. My brother got one of the 3-9x40's about the same time. I don't remember what was wrong with the first one, but he had to send ti back. The second one has ok optics, but the parralax is so bad its amazing--worst I've ever seen. Wouldn't touch another sightron with a 10 foot poll. I know, supposedly they are made by the same plant as weaver, and I like the weaver's just fine, but all I can say is sightron must have lower specs or something.

SO, get the Burris. Or a Leupold, or the Brownings seem like a deal--they are supposed to basically be Bushnell 4200's only without the rainguard, and way cheaper.

I've used both, though not the Fullfield version of Burris. I have several Sightrons, in fact, and have found them quite acceptable. I have the 3-9x42 mildot mounted on a .30-06, and it is every bit as good as the Leupold that came off. I also have the 4-12x42 on a 6.5x55. Good fit and finish, good optics, reasonably repeatable adjustments... I like them.

On the other hand, on my Sako/Lazzeroni, I have the Burris Black Diamond, and it is outstanding. Very precise, holds up to the intense recoil well, outstanding optical clarity when holding on distant objects or critters. I have a couple of Burris Signature Series as well, all used pretty much for long distance, high recoil energy, no-failures-accepted rigs.

The Fullfields I've looked at seem like de-featured versions, still decent glass.

For a .243, at 300 yards, I'd take whichever was prettier or cheaper. That's a low recoil round, not very extreme distance. To my eye, I think the Fullfield looks a little nicer, but I personally like mildots, so I'd probably go with Sightron.

Another one for Burris. Have their Black Diamond on my Weatheby SVM, and a Signature on my Knight. I prefer Burris over all other American brand scopes. Crystal clear optics, and they stay zeroed.

I think I may go with the Burris. I've had Leupolds and Sightrons, but haven't had a Burris. I don't guess I could go wrong with either one. So how about the B-Plex reticle? Is it useful, or just a hindrance?

Thanks for the info.

Do NOT get the Sightron!

Once people figured out how good they are, they've been buying them. And driving the price up. So for my sake, stop buying the Sightrons, and get a Burris or Leupold. ;)

(looking to buy my 3rd Sightron, and I'm usually a Leupold or Weaver guy)

Smokin' great deals on Burris scopes!

I've been a customer of Sierra Trading Post for a long time. It's a mail order outfit that sells high quality seconds, overstocks and close-outs at bargain prices. I just got their most recent catalog yesterday, and they have 22 different models of Burris scopes, ranging from a Black Diamond (top of the line) 3-12x50 to handgun scopes. The prices are the best I've ever seen, averaging 40-50% off list. They also have some Nikon scopes.

Like all Sierra Trading Post items, quantities are limited and they won't last long.
