Bush signs more gun legislation

If only they existed. I heard about congress passing it a while back, but it seems more personal to hear that GWB actually signed this nonsense.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush quietly signed legislation Tuesday that would extend for 10 years a ban on plastic guns that can be slipped past airport metal detectors or through X-ray machines.

The legislation bans the manufacture, sale or possession of such firearms, but exempts military and intelligence agencies. It renews a ban that was last reauthorized in 1998 and expires this month.

It was passed as officials worry that terrorists would get their hands on weapons undetectable by metal detectors at airports and other security checkpoints.

scary part is, if Bush will sign this and not deal with the fallout, it may not bode well for any real legislation

I also hope GWB doesn't get the idea that we will let him get away signing this kind of feel good legislation should the AWB come into play...

When I did military/security mobility exercizes in the late 70s, we had the hand-held technology to detect a piece of foil that surrounded a stick of chewing gum or cigarette pack - likely a bit more than would be considered in anything firearm-wise & I'd just bet-cha that the tech has evolved some ....

This is all part of Bush's strategy to appease special interest groups with a few crumbs. Keep everybody happy. The legislation is completely meaningless except that it may garner him a few votes down the road. As a Republican, this stupid law doesn't bother me nearly as much as the $400 billion Medicare package that was just signed.

Yes, there was a plastic/polymer shotgun made once (in france), with amounts of metal so low it didn't get read by metal detectors, but there was only one like that made.
