I've been eyeballing Bushmaster's new .308 for a few weeks now. The local gun shop said they could get it for me for about $1000. I admit, I'm a bit of a gear junkie, and I've been seduced by the extra punch provided by the .308. I already have a Rem700 for those long shots but I need a good blasty tube in case I'm ever rushed by a gang of mutant watermellons or their Milkjug overloards.

I have searched and searched but I can't seem to find very many reviews of this weapon. I guess that is because it's so new. I've already got the green light from the wife to put it on layaway, but the last thing I want to do is later regret a $1000 impulse buy. The reason I've settled on the AR style is because I like the look and the light recoil (Sproing! :D ). I'm leaning towards bushmaster due to their reputation for making good AR style rifles and the numerous features built into their .308 like it's ability to accept fal mags, ambidexterous mag release, and so on.

Has anyone here purchased one of these weapons?

If so, what are your impressions?

Do you know of any other resources or reviews pertaining to this weapon?

How do you rate it on accuracy, weight, comfort, and reliability?

Overall, are you satisified with it's quality?

Better control layout than the regular AR, recoil similar to 223, accurate, well-balanced. Cheap FAL mags, too bad the rifle is expensive. I lust after the BAR10 pretty badly.

$1000.00?? That's at least $500 below what I've been seeing them for.

I got my paws on one of these last week at the local shop when I was looking for the STG58a.

It seemed like a solid gun....well-balanced, huge frame compared to a .223 AR.

I would look seriously at this gun for $1k......where are you located?

"The local gun shop said they could get it for me for about $1000."

That would be quite a trick since the (suggested) catalog price for these rifles is in the $1700's. My dealer looked into ordering them and said his price would be around $1400.

However, I, like you and many others find this to be an appealing rifle.

Why couldn't I have found a less expensive hobby???

:banghead:

If you don't want it, I'll take it for $1000. You could even shoot a few hundred rounds through it and still sell it for that. Dealer price on these is $1350 or so.

yeah...

It blew my mind as well. I'm hoping that it isn't too good to be true. I talked to one Shop and they said it would be around $1300. Then I called the other one and they said it would be around $1000. I asked him if he considers $1300 to be "around" $1000 and he said "no, that would be around $1300." And I know I specifically asked for the new Bushmaster .308. He even said to hold him to the estimate.

Now you guys really did it, my wallet is starting to burn a hole in my pocket. I'm gonna do it, today is payday. My wife gave me the green light, I think she's feeling a little guilty that we had to loan some money to her mother for an emergency. I'm in Utah, btw. If the deal turns out to be legitimate, I'll post where I found it. It's like finding a potentially great fishing hole, I gotta be the first to fish it before I bring the buddies along, hehe.

I know Gaijin wrote a detailed review of the new bushie... if you are out there Gaijin, any updates?

I am also very interested in one of these as well. I'm trying to justify the high cost by figuring in that I've already got a ton of FAL mags. :D

I emailed Bushmaster a couple of weeks ago asking if a 24" heavy barrel model would be available. (Specifically I asked for one set up like the Varminter.) They said a HB model would probably be available in a couple of months.
