What are the used Bushmaster AR15 prices in your neck of the woods ? I ask becuase I have no idea when it comes to Ar15 rifle prices . I normally mess with pistols and lever action rifles but not AR15's .
I have a Bushmaster M4 A2 Fixed (carry handle) rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO . It has the thick "heavy barrel" and is 16 inches in length. I bought it new in 2004 after the Clinton ban was lifted. I shot three mags through it and stored it away. I'm trying to see about what price to start it off at . I'm going to sell it in my own state and not ship it.
I rather sell it and buy something that I would use way more than to just keep this thing stored away in a safe just sitting there.
I see all kinds of posts like this and I hate to ask this same type of question but I have no earthly idea what the going prices are for these rifles these days. I am more of a pistol kinda guy.
Any information is appreciated .

I have a similar gun except mine is 10 years older. An ok gun, except for the fixed carry handle and too heavy barrel, both of which I wanted to do without.

Anyway, you might get lucky and find somebody who doesn't know anything about AR's and get him to pay $500. It's worth a try if you wan to sell the gun.

But if you just want a flat top shooter, then you should just buy a new upper. PSA has them on sale for as low as $200. The Bush lower is good to go.

Damn  I can already tell that I may end up keeping it unless I get the right trade or offer. I paid WWAAAYYYY more than what you guys said :uhoh: and that was in 2004 .
I was gonna get me a nice Ruger GP100 in .357 mag but good Lord I may just save up for it and just keep my Bushmaster.

The AR market has come a long way since 2004 in terms of both quality and price. Better stuff is cheaper than ever and the market is completely flooded thanks to the recent gun scares.

The AR-15 market is as staturated as its ever been at any point in history. You have multiple manufacturers putting out new, serviceable rifles under the $600 mark, with some as low as $499.99 at times. This means, essentially, there has never been a WORSE time to attempt to sell a used one, especially if you want to see anything even resembling what you gave for it. Hold on to it, shoot it a bit more, and you may learn to love it like millions of others have :) Theres a REASON so many are being made today....

should be able to get a gp100 for less than you can sell the rifle for
Doubtful...the GP100 is a roughly $500 gun in high demand. The AR is a $500 as well, but with little to no demand at the moment. On paper, it may seem like a reasonable trade, but market conditions in the real world tell a different story

Granted the market is saturated, but I wouldn't low ball the price just to move it unless you absolutely need the money. Keep it and wait until the market is more favorable.

You might take it down to a local gun shop and ask what a fair retail price would be. I recently sold an original one to a friend for $750. It had a 16 inch fluted barrel, detachable handle. He was happy with it.

New ones (Freedom Group) are selling for $887 at my local Walmart.

Good luck.

There are always folks looking for upper and lowers, but maybe not the complete rifle. Perhaps think about selling upper and lower separately.

If you plan on buying another AR, you'll be better off just keeping the one you have and shooting it. If nothing else, put an ad up on Armslist and see what offers you get. If you are open to trades, you'll probably have a better chance of moving it.

Same problem parting it out ... new, good AR parts also are cheap today. Parts from 2004 may not draw much interest. Also it's likely a neutered ban rifle - fixed stock, without a flash hider, bayonet lug, etc. You'll have to find someone who wants exactly that.

I have to thank ya there ready eddy, for that little tid bit on PSA, just ordered an upper for my Bushmaster lower in a SS 16" version, (199.00 including shipping) the upper on it has a fixed carrying handle, and I've wanted to put a scope on it for some time now. I Read the reviews and they were all positive.

Also I don't think I would sell my older Bushmaster, like what was already stated the older one's are much better made, and much tighter than the new ones. Never had a problem with mine and I've shot well over 5000 rounds thru it since buying it.

Just picked up a DPMS for 499 at Dunhams. Nice looking rifle. Shot well also.
2 weeks later same deal on Bushmaster.
They may get lower, but I told myself as soon as I found one under 500 it was mine.
Happy hunting,
Catpop

My advice is to keep it for the time being. The fixed carry handle and heavy carbine barrel aren't particularly desirable features, and quality ARs from PSA and other makers can be had for well under $600 these days. That Bushy is worth maybe $400-500 max in today's market.

Save it for when Hilary gets elected next year, though, and you stand to make a decent amount selling it.

Glad to be of service Loose. I like my PSA premium 16" carbine upper. So far it has been accurate and reliable.

I also did the same with my older Bushmaster. I put a 20" flat top upper on it and kept the original 16" fixed carry handle upper into storage. It's nice to have a back up upper.

I had two I was trying to sell. Seems like these days the full rifle might sell less for less than the parts value of the gun. Rough market to be a seller right now.

You'd be foolish to sell it now. You held onto it through 2 or 3 of the best times to sell it. For instance, had you paid attention and sold it during the Obama inauguration or during the Sandy Hook crisis, you could have easily gotten $1500.

Now, you're looking at maybe $600 assuming it's in near new condition.

So, hold onto it and either:
1. Enjoy it and learn to shoot it - it is an excellent weapon for very diverse roles, or
2. Wait until the next gun ban scare, which will probably occur no later than 2016 or 2017 if Hillary gets elected.
