Bushmaster Deal of the Day

My Colt with a 1/7 seems to like it heavier than 55. I get better groups with at least 62. I've been told the 55 is best for 1/9.

According to Boston's Gun Bible:
1:7 is optimized for 62gr bullets. 1:7 was originally spec'd by the Army because of the extra long M856 tracer.

1:9 is the best compromise for most folks. Works well with 55 and 62 gr. It's not fast enough for bullets heavier than 72 gr.

Just wondering since we usually don't shoot out past 100 meter anyway around here...

I'd really like to get a lower and and upper and do the "mechano" thing and "roll my own", with that price I could probably make a complete rifle for ~$600...

I just don't want to build something that will be useless for the ammo I have on hand, pretty close to 1000 rounds of it.

1 in 7 is good with the 62gr rds that is what we use in our m4's in the army. and our m4's have that 1 in 7 twist.

1/9 is a good compromise for most people. Unless you plan on shooting heavy match loads you dont need 1/7. I have a Colt with the 1/7 that hates anything under 62gr, where as my other uppers all have a 1/9 and group well with 50-62gr. Damn $400 for a complete 20" upper (bolt assy too). Wish I had gotten there quicker.

The local AR guys claim that Bushmaster recently had a batch of marginal 1:7 barrels. My son had one that regularly shot 2 inch groups at 50 yards with several commercial loads. 55 grain, 62 grain and 69 grain. Bushmaster did replace the barrel with a 1:9 and all is well.

Bushmaster handled the problem well but a lot of ammo and effort went into trying to get the first setup to work.

$395 is a great price, they might have a problem, might not. The bad batch rumor is just with a local bunch of AR guys, but my son's barrel was a real problem. The truth ? Who knows.
