Bushmaster mags vs Standard AR-15 mags..???

I was looking around on cheaperthandirt.com and I was interested in a buying a few 30 or 40 rd mags. I noticed there are just general AR-15 Mags, then specific Bushmaster AR-15 mags. Will the bushmaster only accept these types of mags, or any type of AR-15 mag.


I didnt see it advertising as Bushmaster as the brand of mag, more or less in the description of what it fits. So thats what got me, I figured a Bushmaster would accept any standard AR-15 mag.

Bushmaster will take any mil spec AR15/M16 mag. It also takes the 5-round, 10-round, 15-round, 20-round, 75-round (yes they look wierd), and the 90 and 100 C mags. :) Who would ever fire 100 rounds non-stop through one I don't know. I guess I pamper mine.
 
The Bushmaster should accept any AR-15 mag. Though, that said, I have some of dubious heritage (English I think) and they don't lock into my Bushmaster very well.

Quite honestly, I've had a fair amount of bad luck buying off-brand AR mags, however, I'm really happy with the PMAGs I purchased a couple of months ago. No problems at all in my Busmaster, and they're only $15!
 
Bushmaster brand AR mags are my personal favorites, at $20 not a bad deal either. The PMAG is great too, can't wait til the window models come out!

You can use any AR-15/M16 mag in a Bushmaster, but I prefer the Bushmaster, Colt, or Magpul (PMAG) models because I know they work well.
 
I have about 30 AR mags, a mixture of 20 rounders and 30 rounders. All are Bushmaster and all work perfectly.
 
As others have said, any rifle with a mil-spec magwell should take mil-spec mags. Some of the differences are material (plastic/steel/aluminum), quality and type of finish (blued/anodized/painted/teflon coated), follower design and material used in springs. Everyone has their favorites, Bushmasters are mine, they are aluminum with a quality teflon coating, chrome silicon springs, "green type" followers. They look good, are light, fit well, and feed reliably. Too bad they don't make 1911 mags too.
 
There is NO point in paying extra for Bushmaster magazines. You can get current military production D&H mags for around $12 each, these are great magazines.
 
What do you guys think of the H&K Maritime Mags for the ARs, the ones that about about $60 a pc for a 30rd

Great mags. Look around, you can find them for $35.

Bushmaster's are just standard GI mags, they are nothing special. Do not pay extra for the name. Plenty of better mags out there, many come with Magpul anti-tilt followers. $20 for a GI mag is a terrible price.

I'm partial to the PMAG and C-Products 20rd stainless mags.
 
Bushmaster mags are just USGI mags. You can get USGI mags cheap and plentifully at Bravo Company for about $10-11/ea.

Not worth the money.....compared to the Aluminum USGI. The Marines have quit issuing those (H&K) due to them being almost as frail as the aluminums but at 4x the replacement cost.

More cost effective to keep using aluminums (which didnt have any issues to begin with) than switch to a heavier more expensive mag.
 
HK mags are widely considered the very best of AR mags, and just as widely considered not worth the money. CP mags are great,as are most of the other mil-spec mags. google around and shop the deals,they're all over the place. CDNN is usually a great source for resonably priced mags.
 
I don't see any point in spending extra $$ for a name on a magazine for an AR-15. Get good USGIs and you're done, IME. I have a friend who buys Bushy mags at the LGS for $25 a pop and thinks it's a good deal. Personally, the most I've ever spent on an AR mag is $15, and I picked two new 20-round NHMTG (?) mags at Perry for $25 (12.50/ea) before tax. I'm not too hard on equipment, but I like my rifles and mags to work, and my AR is the most trouble-free firearm I've owned so far, period.
 
Go to www.44mag.com or www.bravocompanyusa.com for mags. They're AR15.com vendors and only sell quality mags, no junk. D&H, NHMTG, OK Industries, Bravo Co. (made by D&H I think), Magpul PMAGs, and C Products all make very good makes, and all are less than $15. I think Bravo has D&H for $11 ea.

I've bought from both and both are great companies, esp. 44mag.com.
 
My olympic lower is finicky with mags, but never heard of that from bushmaster.

I got good service from 44mag.com on an order of 45 cougar mags.
 
Bushmasters will accept standard aluminum or steel M16/AR15 mags... I know, I use a multitude of brands in my Bushy.

The only mags that I've heard dont work well with certain brands are Israeli-made orlite mags.

Bushmaster brand mags are great quality, but there is no added benefit to them than mil-spec M16/AR15 mags.
 
Brownells 30 and 20 round magazines are the best I have yet used.
At $12.50 each they are a bargain too.

I have several Okay magazines that I am using with CMMG stainless steel followers and braided wire springs.
These are excellent too.

Bushmaster is using Cproducts mags currently I believe. I have had nothing but problems with Cproducts mags, and most everyone I know who has them do too. Old Bushie mags were D&H/Labelle mags. Real nice mag with teflon finish. Stick with GENUINE USGI spec mags like Okay's, or D&H/Labelle and you can't go wrong.

The ads you are thinking of are for Orlite magazines. Bushmasters are *NOT* mil-spec, in that their mag well is very slightly longer than spec. Orlite (Isreali) mags have a ledge, for lack of a better term, that obstructs the mag from seating in a bushmaster. The ones marked "bushmaster" in CTD had this ledge removed. It's an easy mod to do yourself with a file or dremel.
 
National Magazines=no good. I bought a few of these before I knew any better- they work, but they won't drop free from the magwell fromtheir own weight and fit tight.

Heck yeah, I buy my magazines from Northwest Tactical at the above link. I pay $13 each for my D&Hs.....and they have free shipping. I order them with Magpul followers for an extra $2.....I think they are a great addition.

I can order 2 of them for what one of yours cost.....great magazines too.
