Where the Army puts me
I wanted a new AR-15 with a flat top upper receiver and under $1k. I was looking into the Colt 6920 MOE, S&W M&P MOE and Bushmaster MOE in Flat Dark Earth. Due to price and what was in stock I bought the Bushmaster. I haven't had a AR-15 in the house for a while and I still have a ton of extra parts: upper groups, lower groups, barrels, sights, triggers, stocks, grips, etc, etc, etc. I thought about just putting one together with the stuff I already had but then I got the idea to buy a good factory rifle run it hard, upgrade/fix what breaks or what I don't like and I'd have a new gun that I'll love. Depending on how this gun runs I'm thinking: keep it light weight, going to 1:7 twist barrel, maybe 14.5 inch barrel, maybe a suppressor, maybe gas piston upper I don't know just yet. Once it's done I plan on going on leave and taking this gun to some Haley Strategic training courses later this year. Hopefully all goes well. Your thoughtsl

Nice rifle. Shame no S&W, but it looks great. I don't know your rifles twist, I'm digging the 1/8 so far myself. I'd stick to DI gas system. Leave the gas piston to us AK boys.;)

the factory barrel is 1:9, the very best AR I've ever shot was a Bravo Company EAG had a 1:7 you get better accuracy out of shorter barrels and you can run higher loads. We will see how the factory gun works hopefully it will work great. I had my hands on a S&W at a gun show a few months back and I just wasn't a big fan the action felt gritty. However one of my squad leaders just got a M&P chambered in 22LR with an after market barrel and we were Effing stuff up out to 200yards

Bushies are strange bedfellows. Just bought a JP spring kit for mine. Made a few changes on it when I got it. But it runs like a champ. Tried the trigger and sear and decided I like it the way it is (can always keep the spring kit, $10.95) trigger does not need it. Like I said they are strange bedfellows.

Prolly was gritty, due to crap. I've handled ARs at gun shows that left blackened oils on my hands afterwards. Wouldn't base a decision on anything I couldn't put a finger on (like machining flaws, metal shavings, or if the guy just had a dirty ass gun).

Note to sellers at gunshows: Clean your crap if you want to sell it.
