Can the magpul MOE handguard be used on an AR with a gas block (flat-top) or are you limited to its use in conjunction with a fixed front sight model.. I have looked all over the internet and found this question to be asked several times, but I have not found any sort of a straight answer. My assumption is that it can be used with any non-freefloat carbine setup, but I dont want to order the thing if all I cannot use it on my current carbine setup. I am hesitant because of the way the MOE seems to ride the sides of the front sight.

Input would be greatly appreciated.

I recently had a CDD-15 fall into my lap and would like to try out the magpul MOE stock and handguard.

I know the thing is fairly inexpensive and even if, by chance, it didnt work on this gun, I suppose I may well get a fixed front sight gun in the future anyway...

Any info folks?

The OP's question seems to be weather or not the MOE handguard requires a front hand guard retaining cap (behind the gasblock or sight tower.)

It does.

The MOE will not stay in place without the front hand guard retaining cap.

Thank you for your responses.. I greatly appreciate you verifying what I thought to be the case.

I have a standard carbine barrel with a brownells (or someone, can't remember the exact brand) picatinny gas block and my Moe's mounted fine.

I have a good friend who has declared it to be my "star wars rifle" due to the rather unique look of the MOE's.:cuss:

ForumSurfer, I'd love to see a pic of that if you have one.

I try to learn something new every day.
