Freedom Group will shut down operations in March at the Maine facility. article

Seeing as the parent company owns Bushmaster, DPMS, Remington, Marlin....whose next on the chopping block?

They're not being shut down, production is just being moved to more business friendly areas. I'm a died in the wool New Englander, but we tax the crap out of everything which is bound to drive away business.

I read another article that states the employees are being given severance and jobs assistance. Im thinking the quality of work done by those people will be lost as the Bushmaster brand will be done by other facilities. An ARs an ar, but I think workmanship still means something, especially in firearms. JMHO of course...

I will never buy S&W because they made me a rifle that had a dangerous chamber. Got to love American greed. Its not like Bushmaster was already being outcompeted in price point. They had one of the cheaper chromed carbines out there. Its not that they wanted to merely make money...its that they wanted to make MORE money. Also probly going to hire new workers with little or no health care benefits, and healthcare/benefits my friends is where a lot of the problem is. I simply don't know if there is a good health care insurance company left. I know mine won't pay for prescriptions my doctor orders. They have their own "medical standards" Its like having a "company doctor"

If Freedom Group is actually going to fold up shop, these brands will simply be picked up by another company and will continue on. While they don't enjoy the best reputation on the internet anymore, DPMS and Bushmaster are big name AR manufacturers that are well thought of amongst hobbyists. Remington AR's may go away, but the rest of that company is certainly safe. Marlin would be in question though, which is tragic...

Tell us more about the "dangerous chamber", but loose the pointless healthcare rant.

I doubt Marlin would go, they don't really have any major competitors for a lot of their products since Winchester died and reformed as a premium brand. Closing Bushmaster (or at least the manufacturing facility) would make some sense though. You've got Bushmaster, DPMS, and Remington all making competing products at different locations under one umbrella. It was like GM with Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Cadillac. It's not an efficient way to run a business.

Actually in a capitolist society, the bottom line IS the most important thing.

If you cant make a profit, why run a business?

When I buy anything I think of the word B.A.M.

Buy

American

Made

If its made here, whether it be a rifle or a fridge...... It should be the first choice.

The US gun manufacturers CAN make a profit, but the consumers need to understand that it does cost more to make it here.

Marlin closed its doors earlier this year. The new Marlins are made by Remington in a couple of different facilities, including the Ilion, NY plant.

We in AZ would welcome more firearms manufacturers, and the Gov is looking to drop corporate tax rates to encourage businesses to relocate here. Lots of good weather, lots of wide open room, Constitutional Carry, several makers already here, just a wee bit warm in summer time.
