I'm looking for a scope for my Savage 110 .30-06. I dont want to break the bank, since I'm still in school and it only gets used a couple times a year for hunting (deer, hogs, etc).

Right now, I have an el-cheapo Simmons on it, since it was a "package" rifle. I figure that just about anything has got to be better than this.

Originally I was set on a Nikon Prostaff. But in the past day or so, I've run across numerous positive reviews for the Bushnell Banner line of scopes. They all seems to say that they are a great scope for the money.

Are the Bushnell Banner scopes a good buy, or is the Nikon worth the extra $50-$100?

The Banner I had did not live up to my expectations, so I sold it. I suspect the Nikon is worth the extra $$, but you might want to check out Mueller scopes. I've owned two now (the APV and the Eraticator), and both were exceptional values for the money.

you have to get a dusk/dawn series, a little bit better coating on the glass, it is a fine, clear scope. Otherwise , look at a 3200 series ; they are very good.

My buddy bought a Nikon and I bought a Bushnell Banner at the same time.

The Nikon is much clearer all the way across the viewable area. In addition, it has a sharper image at dusk and dawn.

I was proud of saving so much money at the time, but now I feel like I need a real scope.

+1 3200 elite.

Hey there:
You will really like the B&L 3200 Elite. These are B&L scopes now owned by Bushnell as are many other companies.
The 3200 has "Rain Guard" on the glass. I use one on my Encore .50 and will say they are clear and the Rain Guard works very well. you can see thru that scope no matter how wet it gets. I mean see well.....
the Nikon is aslo a good scope. I bought my son one for his Encore and he likes it. I did not care for the long eye releif. 5" is way too much for me.
But The Nikon is a very clear scope. Mind you , we took Leupold 3x9 VXII scopes off these rifles and the above scope's replaced them.

The 3200 and 4200 were Baush and Laumb scopes . They are now owned by Bushnell and Bushnell put their name on the new scopes.

I have both the Banner and the ProStaff and think the ProStaff is a better scope for dim light situations like dawn or dusk deer hunting. If you just want a scope to use at the range the Banner is fine. Haven't tried the 3200 but have heard good things about them.

I experimented with a Dusk to Dawn 1x4 on my M4. It has about 2000 rounds through it and much of it was pretty hard use on run and gun tactical courses.

I used the circle-x reticle which I thought was very nice and the clarity was above average. However the POI shifted a bit as I zoomed the power and it just started patterning rather than grouping now so I think the reticle has loosened.

I'm sure it'll be covered by the warranty, and even though it's a very inexpensive scope, I recommend moving up the scale as everyone else has said.

I have 2 Banners, 1 on my slug gun and one on my .22. They are a great deer and squirrel, limited distance scope for the price-
