I've had good luck with a Sportsman 3X9 variable,on a Beeman spring piston air gun, I have cranked the paint off the elevation knob, it holds zero perfectly, and it sees use weekly, going on 8 years old, shot mutiple thousands of shots, and spring piston air guns are notorious for tearing up scopes. It's a fine scope for the money.
I have a 3X9 Trophy mill dot, has done duty on; a M77VT .308 Win. bolt gun,
Mini 14 Ranch, Savage 12FV .223, and now rides on top a Savage MKII .22 rimfire bull barrel target gun, I think it's 6 months or so younger than the Sportsman, and is still clear and holds zero.
Another Bushnell product I can vouch for is the 8 X 42 Trophy binocular, very clear edge to edge, individual crank up eye cups, rubber coated, if you get a chance to demo one, try them against an entry level Leupold,or Nikon in the approximate same price range, you'll be very suprized.
Burris is another bang for your buck optic check out Natchez Shooter Supply for some of their bundle bargins.
I want to look into the Redfeild 2 X 7 scope, most reports are very favorable, especially since Leupold has taken up the Redfield name.
