But, will it float??

The sheath is brilliant. The handle's great. The blade is nice. The blade and handle just don't go together because of the size difference.

Yea, I know.
But that's all you can get out of a 8" file.
And I didn't want a tiny handle.

Sure, but the final product would have looked much better proportioned with a proportionate handle. Sometimes the piece tells us what it will be and we just have to go along with it instead of fighting it.

It don't really look that bad in real life.
And it's fits the hand perfectly.

I just can't get a good photo of it without light glaring off of it, or blacking out on the steel somewhere.

Kinda like a butchers boning knife in real life.

I don't know hso, I make a 2 1/4" bladed knife that has a 5" handle and it looks good to me. I think this one looks fine.

The length isn't the proportion that doesn't "fit".

RC does great work. Ya just can't hit all of them out of the park every time at bat.

Nice work RC.

I have a file knife I inherited from my father that is well over 50 years old, the handle is deer horn and the sheath deer hide. It was made by my mothers step father who passed the year I was born.

I probably could if I just made the same knife over & over again like most makers.
When I used to do that, every one got better and more refined.

My problem is, every one I tried to make this time is a different design.

Just trying out old rusty skills I once had, using parts on hand.

Wasn't trying to win a Knife show award, or please everyone in the internet universe.

It pleases me I could still almost hit the ball, and that's all that counted this time.

And find me another knife maker that can do the whole deal from steel to a decent looking leather sheath!

There are some, but not that many.
