With 9 other guns it's entirely likely one has seen 30 rounds thru it and got put in the safe. Saying the AR would suffer the same fate means some of the handguns should get sold for the AR. Best of both worlds - still got guns, but you use them more, got an AR, looks cooler just sitting there.
Like was said, nobody carries all their handguns.
Spec the AR to do something you could do, like, hunting in your state. If handgun hunting was on the table, it opens the seasons up to scout during long gun season. Don't have to actually shoot it, but nobody complains about carrying a light weight rifle outdoors during a legal shooting time and zone looking for game. It's just advanced range shooting in a 3D environment, which really expands the skill set. Checking for backstop, knowing your target, everything necessary carrying a handgun still required, in a live zone of action.
Very much the reason a lot of combat arms prior service go hunting. Keeps the skill set exercised at an enjoyable level of performance with some real world standards still needed.
Can't do that much in daily carry in an urban situation. If anything, you don't get to raise a gun and sight in on various objects on the street ever. Daily carry is an exercise in never getting to do much of anything - carrying an AR in the woods is an exercise in practicing to do anything.
It's what the AR could be used for, others can chime in.
