Is there anyone out there that sells the full assortment of Lee 45/70 bullets? Looking to do some experimenting and would like to try some out before buying my own casting stuff.

Thanks bds!

Along those lines, is there anyone that sells a pure lead 45/70 cast bullet with no antimony or anything else in it?

If you have no luck here try castboolots.gunloads.com

Great bunch of guys and they have a ton of information on casting, pages for buying and selling everything from bullets to molds and beyond.

Also coated bullets are pretty popular. I do them.myself in 4 calibers.

I believe missouri bullet has sample packs for purchase as well. Might want to check them out. Not sure of the lead content.

One more thing. Pure lead doesnt fill the molds well without tin. Tin adds very little hardness to lead alone. 2 percent tin really makes pretty bullets.

Also check out http://www.lasc.us/castbulletnotes.htm they have tons of info on casting, mixtures, hardbess and veloctiy.

Lee molds work well, but often cast undersized bullets.
This is easily fixed with aluminum tape (I bought mine at Walmart!)

I have some older 1-cavity molds. 340, 405hp, 400hb.
Most accurate has been the 400hb, due to it being larger in diameter, and hollow base expands to fit bore. Powder coating the 340 and 405 have brought them up to accuracy of 400hb now (AND shimming with aluminum tape)

My favorite mold is a RCBS 300gr FNGC. It casts to 318gr, 322 w/gc.I like it over 29.0gr of #2400 for 1,600 fps (18.5" GuideGun)

I also have the 480gr "Postell" Lee. It's too small and from a H&R Handi rifle I had it keyholed badly. I recast all I had and have never revisited it in last 10yrs.

I think he's using it on the mold, not the bullet. The procedure is called "Beagling" after it's inventor whose screen name on Cast Boolets is Beagle. Basically, you use pieces of aluminum duct tape to prevent the mold from fully closing. This makes it cast a slightly larger bullet than is made round when sized and lubed.

well sorry for my ignorance but never heard of this and sounds pretty cool! I wonder if the tape lasts awhile under all that heat??
