Buy your next gun, or ammo, components etc?

Whether people have a few guns (or many), and a fair bit of ammo, primers, powder etc, what do you consider a wiser choice at this time?

Let's keep in mind fuel/commodity price increases, Japan's disastrous situation and influence on global stock markets+consumer confidence, and the new ATF Director, who might slap more restrictions on imported guns and ammo.

As currency exchange rates are always changing, what other factor(s) is very important?

You can never go wrong with more ammo...but I think right now if there's a Browning or a scope that you need to have and a store has it locally, I'd do it or be prepared to wait a bit.

Choice

With the Japanese economy in ruin and the value of the yen at an all time high against the dollar the choice is clear..guns and optics (If they are made in Japan) Miroku, Howa,Nikon etc.
Ammo, powder and primers are still being manufactured in the USA...their cost is more affected by raw material costs. Far as I know, not a lot (or any) raw material that is used in ammo originates in Japan..

exactly! (post 2,3, and 4) Unless there's something you NEED, ammo is more important right now, in my opinion. After buying the one type of gun (besides a handgun) that I still need, I'll only be buying ammo for quite a while!

I've got some gun money saved and having been waiting to figure out what I want to do with it. I do a lot of handgun competitions and have easily been able to keep up reloading on my single stage rockchucker. I've considered getting a Dillon press in the past when I had some money, but so far a new gun has always won out. Now I'm leaning towards buying a Dillon press. I figure that I'll have it down the road when I really need it and money might be tighter in a few years when I retire. I've got quite a bit of components allready, but can alway use some more. Lead, bullets, and powder. I have enough primers warehoused to last me the rest of my life. I'm not going through THAT again!!

I have the firearms, the brass, the dies, the molds, and other "stuff" that I need already. I will be buying primers and .22 ammo for "a rainy day". I will usually buy 10-shoot 5 and put the 5 away. I try to stay 1-2 years ahead of my shooting needs with primers at least but have let my stock slip a bit due to slow work and scarcity/prices of them last 2 years. That said I am still loading using some with price tags of $10 per 1K and have a bunch of those left.

I'm with M2 Carbine. If your bases are covered, go with ammo. Or components if applicable.

Having lots of 8mm Mauser (but Do Not like the Yugo's sights) and similar x39, it looks like Prvi .303 should be next, then more 30-06 from the CMP.

On another website where the question is about buying ammo or reloading stuff, most recommended powder.

oneounceload: "Roger that". My five Enfields (#4s, #5s) might be enough for a while, with the Mini 30, SKS, Garand and Yugo Mauser.

buy everything your credit cards will allow. when the economy dumps all the way, nobody's credit is going to be any good! in the meantime, make minimum payments.
