All:

I recently moved across town (same city, state, zip), and I haven't had a chance to go down and get a new driver's license yet. My license still shows my old street address.

A local shop has a Government model on sale at a really good price, and i'm seriously considering buying it. However, will there be a problem when I put my current street address down on the 4473, and it doesn't match the street address on my license?

Just wondering...

This might be a question without an answer.

I've purchased three revolvers in three different shops over the last month with a driver's license that shows an address different than where I live now. This after a 26 mile move. The distance actually matters not, I'm sure. This after completing the paperwork correctly using a correct current address which is different than that on my license.

Didn't think about it the first two purchases, but sure got to thinking about it half-way through a 180 mile drive to Houston last Sunday where I made my last purchase.

What's the law? I don't know. Maybe I should find out.

I sure wouldn't use that old address when completing the form in an effort to match a record so I could purchase the weapon.

I was in the same situation a while back at Walmart, they accepted my auto registration with the correct address on it. Check and see what documents they will accept as ID.

ID addresses

I have a house where I don't get mail, and an office where the mailbox is very secure in a post office multiple box center. I want mail sent to the secure box at the office, of course. The CHL and DL folks always want your house address, and its often difficult to get them to put the HOUSE address on the ID but send mail to the office. Plus then you have an address on your DL that you DON'T want used and business who want an ID notice that it's different than the address you use for mail.
I currently have different addresses on my CHL and DL. One is the house, one is the office.

I'm sure there is no solution. In fact, I expect it to get worse. The gov.

In NJ, your license must match your FID and must be up to date.

In other jurisdictions, I'm uncertain.

I'd suggest putting a deposit on the gun you want, most FFLs will hold it for a reasonable amount of time 'till you get everything straightened out.

In Connecticut, you are required to notify DPS of the address change by phone, email, or mail within 48 hours.

Here, you also go down to your local police station or DMV and get an address change sticker and put the correct info on the rear of your DL.

I've never had any problems.

I'm in college and have my own apartment, while my drivers license has my parent's current address. My parents moved while I've been in college, so I've never physically lived at their current house.

just put half down

and wait a week or two until all yer paperwork is in order...or just ask the nice person behind the counter how they want to proceed.

oh btw..while your there...pick up a box of .357 mag for me?:neener:

I went by the store today at lunch, and it turned out that the Government model had been sold. Oh well.....

The back of the 4473 says that you must have a .gov issued picture ID that shows current residence and place of birth. There is some confusion over whether more than just one ID will work.

If someone let you buy a gun without showing the above, ewww... Hate to get caught doing that.

My license addy (indicates parents' house) and the addy I put down on 4473s (my apartment) don't match. The guys I go to (shameless plug: PDHSC, in Raleigh) are a conscientious bunch, so I'm going to venture that it's not required by the ATF that the two match.

I'll note that at the last gun show I went to, a lot of vendors were requiring it.
