Alright all I am going to be visiting my Uncle that is returning form Afghanistan in Reno in the near future. I live in California. I am planning on buying some ammo seeing that ammo my way is NOT CHEAP. My question is can I legally buy ammo out of state and drive back with it as long as I do not buy anything that would be illegal in California. Also will I need a relative with a Nevada I.D. to make the purchase. I will thank you in advance for your input.

Good question. I was just gonna laugh until I saw you're in California, which is no laughing matter to gun folks. God only knows what the law says there this week. I know what I would do, but that's not necessarily what you should do.

You shouldn't need local ID to buy ammo.

I'm not sure when the new ammo laws take effect, but there's nothing illegal about driving out of California with a whole bunch of ammo, going to a shooting range, and returning with all the ammo you didn't use when you were there, if you get my drift.

I looked it up. The new law takes effect in February 2011. Right now, you can buy and bring in all the ammo you want, and nobody can say "boo", no matter what, as long as you can legally have it.

When the law does take effect, it only applies to handgun ammo. Chances are it will be unenforceable, anyway, per my post above.

See http://www.calguns.net/ for more details, and everything else about CA gun laws, shooting, etc.

I had problems in NY state buying pistol ammo with a NJ ID.

Yeah, but Nevada's primary source of income for the past half century has been providing Californians with stuff that they can't get at home, like gambling and prostitutes. Something tells me they'll be selling a lot more ammo if the bill isn't repealed before next year...

ID should only be asked for to verify age. A Nevada seller won't give a rat's butt what state you are from, there are no Federal restrictions on out of state ammo sales, except for regulated ammo such as armor piercing and the Federal age requirements. None of the stupid ammo laws that states have passed can have any effect outstide that state.

Ohio does this with cigaretts. We tax the crap out of them and then spew the stastics that we're stopping people from smoking because were selling less cigaretts, all while reducing the tax revinue........

Then if you drive out of Ohio, any direction; you will find bulk cigarette sales.

BRILLIANT! :banghead:

We recently discovered that the same was occuring with "Games of Chance":scrutiny::rolleyes:

(No I dont smoke, but I'm not a commie either; smoke'em if you got'em)

Probably within 100 yards of the state line.

We provide some residents of surrounding states with fireworks, here.:D

Having lived in the Reno/Carson area for over 20 years - the procedure is thus:

Go to store
select ammo
pay for ammo
leave store.

We used to have a chain of drug stores that sold guns, alcohol, and scrips without any issues or waiting periods - how cool is that!!!..:D
