I'm told of stories of barrels of 03's and Krags and Argie mausers at K-Mart for $5 apiece at one time, too.

As for replacing the trigger group, be careful of the ten-or-less game.

Send your trigger group to Kivaari.

He made the trigger on my Yugo SKS simply amazing. Short two stage 4 pound trigger. Simply amazing. No other way to decribe it.

Dozens of testimonials here: http://www.sksboards.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14340&sid=8ebf821d2d653107b2a7dcc4025491e8

Fix the free floating firing pin. Get rid of slamfires http://www.murraysguns.com/sksown.htm

This is a mod that turns the free floating firing pin into a spring loaded pin that stays back ala 1911 until you pull the trigger. First generation Russian SKS's had the spring loaded FP. It was discontinued to make production easier. A must for all SKS's.

Zeke, Tom Prince (aka Kivaari) is the one I plan on sending the trigger to. I've sent a couple emails back and forth and I think I'm going to send it next week.

About the sights, I looked into the tech sight, but I don't like the way it makes the gun look, that you probably have to permanently modify the receiver cover (which also makes disassembly more difficult), or the price. I'd like to keep the gun as stock-looking as possible so if I do change the sights, I'll probably get the Williams.

I've also considered the firing pin spring that was posted, but I don't think I'll do that right away.

About cleaning the firing pin. I disassembled the bolt and soaked all components in mineral spirits then cleaned the firing pin and channel with Hoppe's Bench Rest, and again in mineral spirits to rinse out the Hoppe's. The firing pin seems pretty free, but if I push it all the way forward forward it'll stick a little. If you just touch the front of it, it'll move back into the bolt, but it won't go back from shaking the bolt. Is this how the firing pin should be, or should I spend some more time trying to clean it? It's already soaked in mineral spirits for almost 48hrs.

The sight looks like you just replace the pin that holds the reciever cover on with the sight. That actually looks kinda interesting.

But, I'm not gonna put a $45 sight on a $100 gun.

If anyone has trouble with cycling. If you narrow it down to the gas valve, It's a simple fix. I read this on the sks forum and it worked for me. Get a ball bering a little larger than the gas valve opening, put it in a vise and put a little spread into the opening. It takes just a little forcing to widen the opening, tightening up the conection to the gas tube. Check often so you dont over do it. Works great and is cheap to do. Saved my gas tube which is a match to the gun.

PS if you dont have mineral spirits, charcoal liter fluid works great for cleaning cosmo or just cleaning after shooting.
PPS The shape of the pin and the oriface(dont know what to call it) come to a cone point. It is natural for it to "stick" in the forward most position. The pin should move back and forth freely when shaken. The Murray solution seems to be the ideal "fix" for a sticky pin. I haven't had a problem yet, but wouldn't hesitate in getting him to work on it if I did. He uses your bolt which would keep your gun original to itself, which is semi important. Especially if it has matching numbers. I really like these "cheap commy guns". Enough from me. Enjoy.
