My friend has run into hard times and needs some cash. What would be a fair price. Its not in the best condition. Its been in his closet for 15 years roughly. The inside of the barrel looks fine. i'd even say perfect. The outside seems to have some specs of rust here and there.

Im trying to help him out. So what would be the fairest price for him? the only thing i could really find was this

http://antiques.motleys.com/auction-items/savage-fox-model-b-shotgun-12-ga-serial-not-found-2-34-chamber-double-barrel-30-l-barr

and that is going for $300 it seems. His has a single trigger and only takes 2 3/4 shells.

You can buy parts or a stock for it. I really like the Stevens SxS 20 guage I picked up last summer. It was perfect for shooting muskrats out of my pond. Options if you want a double barrel seem to be Russian or $1,500 for a Ruger. I would think a solid functional double barrel is worth $300 to a guy.

Only thing to watch is the Single trigger Fox B's were sometimes problematical compared to the double trigger 311's.

I might help out a friend by paying $300, but don't plan on getting your money back if you decide to sell it later. And yes the single trigger guns could be a POS. I bought one new for $125 in 1974. Kept the gun about 10 years and it never worked right. It spent more time at a gunsmiths shop than in my safe.

Fair to him or you? if he's a real friend loan him the money he needs and take the gun as collateral that way if he wants it back he can get it by paying you back.

I've got a 20ga Fox BSE single trigger that has been flawless for 40 years. Around here the asking price is $450-$650. I'd like to have another, but that's more than I want to spend. I'd definitely spend $300 for one, though.

There is a Fox at my local gun store that has been on consignment for $350 for about 4 months. So I would say that fair market value is definately below that.

i meant for him. hes not a gun guy. hes actually afraid of guns. so hes just trying to get rid of it. Im gonna try to take him out shooting on sunday. Hopefully he'll get over his fear.

also thanks for the replys guys.

I also have a Savage/Fox BSE in 20 - not a bad gun, started to open on firing and needed some work - luckily, my smith is an older gent with a veritable warehouse of gun parts. It still works fine, but does not come out to play as often as my Brownings. Current auction-site asking prices are around 600 for my version which has a single trigger and ejectors in 20 gauge. If your is a 12 with extractors, the value is less - so the 300 sounds fair...............

I paid $90 for a double trigger 511A Stevens 20 gauge and $100 for a Marlin Papoose at the same time. Didn't need either gun, but like them both.
