Being that Wal-Mart is the most prolific retailer in the country, it seems "what Wal-Mart thinks" is pretty accurate.

And what they sell is low-quality stuff to folks who value nothing more than the initial price

"The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory.” - Aldo Gucci

Some folks don't understand why quality costs more, or how a US company, trying to compete with China, has to cut corners because some folks think the China made guns are better because they are cheap. To each their own - I would rather have 1 "best" quality gun that worked every time than 100 cheap POC's that always broke

When the local ma and pa indulged in price gouging, charging 2 to 4 times cost for primers and powders, and trippled their price for transfers they lost me as a loyal customer where I had spent thousands. :cuss:

Yeah, like that Leupold VX-III piece of crap, right?

Walmart has brand-name companies build products to a price point that walmart tells them. They tell them how much they will pay for the product, so makers make "walmart" quality products that are typically not the same as you would find elsewhere.

So, someone held a gun to your head and FORCED you to buy from them? This was absolute life-essential goods? No in either case. It isn't gouging when you willingly pay. Besides, how do you know that, during this recent price issue, that THEIR costs weren't raised high as well?

Okay... uh... I've always heard that this was a myth, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt and called Leupold. Wrong there, as it seems. I was told that all of their stuff is built to their high standards and sold to whichever retailer would like to sell it. He claimed that they'd never compromise their product's quality and do that. It sort of, seemed to offended him actually.

Or were you talking about toasters? Because I was referring to a Leupold scope sold by Wal-Mart. I don't think it is "low-quality stuff".

Culled from Walmart.com:

Sony, Samsung, Canon, Nikon, Nintendo, Microsoft, Apple, Garmin, Levi's, Nike, Reebok, Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade, Rawlings, Spalding, Eagleclaw, Shimano, Otis, Thompson Center, Remington, Mossberg, Winchester, Nikon, Browning, Hoppes, Leatherman, Gerber, SOG, Kershaw, Spyderco.

That sure looks like a lineup of subpar merchandise to me! :banghead:

This kneejerk anti-Walmart stuff is so tiresome and adolescent. Hey, if you don't want to shop there for whatever reason, I could care less. But trying to convince the world that they are evil because they are big, or because they pressure their suppliers, or whatever is just plain asinine.

Riiight. I'm sure Apple has a bunch of plastic iPods being sold at WalMart. And that TV I bought probably has an incandescent bulb in the back. I wonder if the ammo has half the gunpowder?

I'm sure there are "exclusive" lines from some manufacturers sold only at Walmart, but this is not unique to Walmart. Ever been mattress shoipping? Been to Costco lately? How about Dillards, JC Penny and Nordstrom. Ever wonder why their Levi's are all different? Tires, clothing, food, electronics all engage in these types of "co-branded" merchandise. Doesn't make them evil or sub-par.

Of the shops around me, only 1 can compete with Buds prices and thats only because they give me 10% off (5% ex-military discount and 5% NRA discount). With the 10% off they come in just under Buds price + transfer. But they don't have anywhere near the selection Buds has.

I always check that shop first and even if they come in a bit higher than I can get online I would buy from them because they are trying. No one else around here is giving 10% off.

I buy local for all firearms, most ammo and cleaning products. I'm lucky enough to be within about 40 miles of some great stores. More importantly, I want those stores to be there when I need them for quick information, advice and service.

Don't forget when you used to buy your computer stuff locally and got help, then on line and got help, now on line and get India.

Shop on line for price and buy local when you can.

Oh brother...not this again. Yes, there are a few instances where the vacuum you buy might have 3 feet less cord or whatnot because they built it for Wal-Mart, but that sort of thing just doesn't happen with most gun related stuff, or brand name electronics etc.
Sometimes a company might make a special model for distribution through Wal-Mart--say, 10/22s with a laminate stock you can't get elsewhere--but that's the same thing they do for Davidsons and Lipseys.
It's not like the cobble up all their factory seconds to ship to Wal-Mart

Or, Wal-Mart may carry more of a company's lower tier products than other retailers, but they're not listed as being the same model number/SKU/whatever as a deceptive way of making you think you're getting something higher quality than you are.
