Is this even legal in IL? Never tried it as I just assumed it wasn't but maybe I'm wrong. I can't find what I want in any of the stores around here but have found it online. Anyone in IL do online ammo purchases?

You should be able to purchase online with no problems if you live outside of Chicago and/or Cook County.

If you live inside Chicago/Cook County = problems.:cuss:

YES!!!

Most won't send to Chi or Cook, Co. Most will require you send/fax/ email a copy of your FOID and DL. In fact, vitually ALL of the big online ammo sellers do so.

I have (recently) ordered from AIM in Ohio (nice folks) and in the past from Cheaper Than Dirt, etc.

No problem at all. The responsibility for complying with IL law is of course on you, too. Most will take a computer scan of your ID nowadays also--which is much easier and clearer to read than a faxed copy for most.

BTW--what are you looking for?

I purchased ammo online with no problems. You just need to email/fax a copy of your FOID and maybe your driver's license and you should be fine.

I would say that living inside of Cook County (but outside of Chicago) only reduces your options among the major vendors by a third at most. As a positive example, MidwayUSA just started shipping to Illinois (including Cook) last September. Here's hoping they start a trend!

ammoman.com will ship in cook outside Chicago with DL copy and FOID copy, plus signed form from their site.

MidwayUSA works just fine for me. They have a copy of my FOID card on file.

Now if I can get the UPS guy to quit complaining about how heavy a carton for a 1,000 rounds of .45 ACP is I'll have it made.
