My Marlin took its first deer this past weekend using a .45-70 405 grain cast lead bullet.

Hit him a little high, right in the spine above the shoulders (it was maybe a little dark and he was moving). He dropped like a ton of bricks.

I want to try the load on a good sized hog, bet I'll get the same reults!

blooding a new gun is always fun. congrats on busting your deer!

i managed to blood my 480 ruger - my first handgun big game kill, and lo and behold, the 480 ruger can kill a deer as well.

Most folks have forgotten the cast lead bullet in favor if the jacketed bullets of today. .45 is my favorite caliber and i load hard cast bullets in .45 Colt 260 grain Keith SWC's and 300 grain FN gas checks in my 454 Casull. Performance on game is superb.
