Welcome Aboard

Balog;
Most lefties I known are gun nuts. Seattle politians and Police Chief are anti-gun but the majority of the citizens are pro-gun, its the rest of the stuff that drives you crazy. I'm a former FMF Corpsman, so know how to handle Misguided Childern:D. Anywho, welcome to the green state.

Nothing productive to add to this thread other than thank you for your service. You are a better man than I.

I just moved up here from San Diego, (A VERY pro-military city.) I have had no real anti-military problems here in the Puget sound, and I see a whole lot of Jarstickers on cars, too. Don't forget that with Everett, Bremerton, Whidbey Island, Fort Lewis, etc, there are scads of active dutive up here. Most folks probably know or are related to servicemembers. Even in Fremont sportin a high and tight, with Cali tags and a Gyrene sticker on my car, folks don't give me too much grief or mean-muggin'. Most folks I talk to actually thank me for my service when they find out I was in the Corps.

That reminds me, today is the two year anniversary of my EAS. Forty acres and a mule, baby.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do have a coupe general kinda questions about the area.

Is there anything special I need to do in terms of gun maintenance or storage to deal with the humidity? Just a quick wipe down with CLP or something along those lines, or do I need to get all fancy about it?

Any advice about hunting in the area? I've heard it's over the counter licenses for whitetails and bears. Do ya'll have feral hogs up there? Would just slowly and quietly walking through the woods be a good method? I'm used to super open country, not sure how to deal with the thick woods.

Kydex beats leather hands down in the North Wet. Keep stuff properly oiled. Dessicant in the gun safe is not a bad idea.

anyone who suggests Auburn or Renton as an option as to where to live hasn't made the drive up I405 lately :neener: . stay north if you can afford it.
Check out Discount Gun Sales in Kirkland as a gun shop, Dave's in Bellevue off Bel-Red has good selection but is overpriced except for the indoor range.
I may live in Tulsa now, but spent the last 3.5 yrs until last July in Redmond and Kent.

Greetings Marine :)

Everett and the surrounding communities are very Military friendly.
I am Active Duty Navy, lived in WA. for 10+ years. Occasionally visit the Grocery store in my uniform and get thanked for serving EVERY TIME. Often get ushered to the front of the checkout line too. (kind of embarrassing).

Almost every Local I know owns firearms, especially the old timers.

Congrats on picking a fine state to live in. And..... it only rains once a year up here, from October to June :)

I wouldn't live there, but Seattle isn’t that bad.

I live on the eastside now, but when I lived in Seattle I discovered thru casual conversation that my mechanic and dentist both carried, and I worked with a number of vets and reservists.

BTW: the gunshop and indoor range on Bel-Red is Wade’s, not Dave’s.

I know what you mean. Every time someone thanks me for serving or calls me a hero or something crazy like that I get all embarrassed and don't know what to say. The real heroes are in places like Arlington. I'm just a guy who did his job as best he could.

Forget the East Sound. Come on over to the Kitsap Peninsula. Harrison Medical Center is the hospital in Bremerton, and the second largest employer in the county. They are usually hiring RN's. Look for places to live around Poulsbo or Silverdale. East Bremerton isn't bad either. The traffic, people, and crime rate are all better over here. A couple places to shoot here are Poulsbo Sportmans Club and Kitsap Rifle & Revolver.
As far as gun care goes: don't store handguns in leather holsters, CLP works fine for me as a protectant.
Feel free to PM me.

Give serious thought to where you and your wife will be working as commuting anywhere within the Puget Sound is increasingly frustrating. Spending as little time as possible parked on I-5/405/520/I-90 will improve your life immeasurably.

Give that quote some serious consideration! Getting anywhere quickly in the Seattle/Everett/Tacoma metropolitan area can be a nightmare during rush hour and surprisingly difficult during off hours for no apparent reason.

Hey Devil Dog.
If you ever get out to the Everett area, the Everett Sportsman's club is a great place to shoot and socialize. (It's tricky to find too). Membership is cheap, open FRI/SAT/SUN but subject to flooding in the Winter.

It is outdoors so it's nice in the Summer, chilly in the Winter.

I'll get you the number today, it's on my Cell phone, but the phone hasn't been charged in 3 months.

The range is well hidden from view.
From I-5 take the Highway 2 EAST exit (194?)
travel about 3/4 of a mile to the HOME ACRES exit.
At the bottom of the exit, make a Right turn and follow HOME Acres Southward about 3/4 of a mile.
The range is on the Left side of the road. back about 1/8th of a mile.

I will get the number for you today

Thanks for the Everett Sportsman's Club info guys. Not sure it is what I'm looking for, but always good to know about ranges in the area.

Hey, I know that feeling. I used to use my Cell as an alarm clock last time I was afloat, (U.S.S. Carl Vinson CVN70.) That way it stayed charged and if we hit Pearl, I could actually use it.

Thanks to Millcreek and others for the Everett range info, I have been depressed at the inability to position shoot at Sam's, (standing only) and the one per rule at Kenmore.

Hey, Balog...

If you happen to hit the South Sound area (south of Seattle) send me a PM. I live in Enumclaw, a nice little city about 14 miles from Auburn.

Lots of outdoor ranges in this area. Most, unfortunately are clubs, and in most cases you have to be a member to shoot. The two exceptions I know of are Tacoma Sportsman's Club and (if you still carry a military ID) Range 15 on Ft. Lewis.

To add on to what another poster said, Champion Arms IS a nice indoor range--but I would think twice before sending ANYTHING there for work or gunsmithing. PM me for more.

For what I consider the best prices around, there are: Ben's Loans, in Renton, and Cascade Loans and Sporting Goods in Auburn.

If you want some primo handgun training, we have (IMHO) one of the best schools in the country right around here--InSights, which is located a bit further south.

Shoot me a PM when you get in the area!

Yours,

Powderman

I hope you take something with you from the USMC when you enter civilian life, it will help you make something of yourself.

Wow, lots of good info. Thanks again.

I was looking at houses/apartments online with my wife yesterday. We saw a ~2800 sq ft house in Bremerton for ~$1300! A lot of 2-3 bed apartments are going for that on the Seattle side.:( I wish I didn't already have a job lined up on the other side of the sound. A friend from Bellevue was telling me that south in the Tacoma area was actually pretty ghetto; he strongly advised us to look elsewhere. Any truth to that? The prices down there are good, but if it's got as much gang activity as he's saying I don't wanna waste time looking in the area.

There are still plenty of good places available in the Tacoma area--as long as you stay away from the central area.

If you find an address in any of the following areas:

City of Tacoma
City of Fife
City of Milton
City of Edgewood (patrol area, all of the above)

City of Auburn
City of Enumclaw
City of Buckley
City of Bonney Lake (I live out here)

and you want to know about the area, shoot me a PM, and I'll give you the straight poop.

Real estate folks like to say "transitional."
I have family that lives South of downtown Tacoma and friends that live over near (Procter) and in the "Hilltop", West of downtown. Both areas have their drawbacks.
